Day light robbery by Reliance Communications, India (RCOM)

  • by: Kalpak Shah
  • recipient: Reliance communication CDMA service provider and its users
Reliance communications, Known as RCOM (http://www.rcom.co.in/webapp/Communications/jsp/rmobile/index.jsp) is providing cellular services based on  CDMA  technology.

When they introduced services, they made history and initiated revolution in India to make mobile communications affordable to mass. They even offered handsets at affordable price and also offered installments of about Rs. 200 for 36 months so that common man of India can afford mobile phones.

After the death of visionary Shri Dhirubhai Ambani and subsequent split of two Ambani brothers, RCOM services started becoming expensive or they became slower to react to the changes in market because every day mobile communication is beoming cheaper.

For example, Aitel (India's largest cellular service provider) reduced long distance (STD) charges to Rs. 1.50 per minute from about Rs. 2.50. Reliance (RCOM) was the last to reduce its STD tarrif and infact even after that they reduced rates to Rs. 1.50 per minue, where as many other smaller operators started offfering prices even lower than that. Despite of the fact that smaller operators do not have their own national network.

To the horror of most subscriber (infact most subscribers are not aware as they are not informed till date by RCOM) RCOM increased rate for internet browsing to about Rs. 115000 per GB (About US $ 2500 - 2700 per GB).  Which makes them one of the most expensive internet service provider in the world, perhaps.

I invite all RCOM CDMA service subscribers to sign this petition and then I propose to send it to all releted government deartments, consumer protection agencies and regulatory authorities.
