DE-INSTITUTIONALIZATION FOR EX-CONS

An example of what happens to ex-cons after release, is well depicted in the movie "The Shawshank Redemption". The old man that hung himself as a result of him not knowing how to cope with the "Free World". How can we expect ex prisoners to be reformed and a productive part of society when there is no transitional efforts made by the state. Reform and rehabilitaion is not only imperitive but less costly to us as tax payers.
The justice system (in the United States) is far from perfect. We cannot rely on the courts decisions to be right or wrong. Hopefully, in most cases they are just, however many innocent men (people) suffer an injustice for many reasons. Once institutionalized, the road to recovery is not only detremental to society, but an injustice to those who crave freedom in our "FREE" world?!
A dear friend of mine would like to add some personal insight:
~after 12 years of incarceration (found guilty...take it for what that is worth), he did not know how to use a cell phone, pump gas, use a credit card, get a credit card, use the internet, how to seek employment, how to eat without a job or ways to seek employment after his release. His quote was "He felt like he was Standing in the middle of a 4 lane interstate in rush hour traffic, at 90 miles an hour".
~This population of ex cons, that are being thown out on the street every day is escalating, and we as the tax payers are paying...again and again, and again.
