We Are Family Day will celebrate our common humanity.
We are a population of almost 7 billion people, growing by 222,686 people per day on 1 planet.
As the world becomes smaller due to the ability to communicate faster and more efficiently, it is imperative that the citizens of the world learn about cultural differences and similarities.
In a world where conflict and misunderstanding between cultures, religious groups and countries dominate the landscape, it is imperative that the citizens of the world learn about those who are different from them and create a global outreach for the greater good. We are all in this together.
We Are Family Day will provide an opportunity for teachers, parents and educators of all kinds to teach our youth about different cultures, religions and the importance of respecting our fellow human beings.

We truly are all family. If we treat each other as such, and respect that we have differences that compliment each other, we can enhance our life experience for ourselves and others. Just because someone is different culturally, or religiously, or in the color of their skin, doesn't mean that they are wrong or unworthy of the same respect we all deserve. Life is more interesting with variety. Expand your viewpoint and invite "We Are Family Day" on March 11th.

My work with people fighting severe mental-illness has taken me all over the USA. How sad it is that ornate residential- and office -buildings tower over blighted blocks crammed with the desperately poor. How infuriating it is that our best academic medical centers, although typically located in the epicenters of urban and rural poverty, do little to contribute even a bit from their massive endowments to provide caring assistance in rebuilding these shattered communities. Not only is this an outrageous display of indifference, but, in the end, every single one of us loses as a result of this sorry status-quo. Because, you see, those who are silenced by pain have so much to say: We need to go out of our way to stand up and speak and act on their behalf until they can teach us what they know about life, and my God do they know. Tragically, extreme adversity is a very effective teacher.... And regardless of whether a seriously ill and/or poor person lives in East Baltimore, Southern Appalachia, Chicago's West Side, North Saint Louis, the Missouri and Arkansas Ozarks or anywhere else, for crying out loud, the essential components of his and her inner life is identical to that of every single one of us. We are all just a few degrees of separation from one another, and zero degrees of separation from what makes each of us well or ill and human--human! We ARE family! Members of a healthy family by-definition retain their unique identities; I am not suggesting that we become an amorphous mass. I am begging you to realize, though, that the destructive barriers that separate us are artificial, and all of us will benefit from breaking down those walls so as to become true, caring family.

I am so blessed to have found this website. If we can begin to treat one another as if we are members of one family, truly brothers and sisters, then the world can begin to heal.

I am a school counselor in a very rural community in West Virginia. There is not much diversity in cultures, predominantly white caucasian. These students need to learn about diversity and muli-culturalism. I think this program is a wonderful idea and We Are Family Day is even a better idea!

Please let's allow people to learn how other live in other parts of the world, just as we ourselves live different to other people in other parts of of this world.
We have only place to live, and is in this world, earth.
Thank you,

In these times more than ever before it is especially important to teach our children the importance of global unity. Teaching our children to respect other cultures and religions is an important foundation for making our children's future brighter. Please declare March 11 We Are Family Day.

As an elementary school teacher, having this official day to celebrate our appreciation of others as part of our world family would provide a wonderful opportunity to enhance and give relevance to what we teach in our classrooms and schools. We need more celebrations such as this that can help to unify us as human beings.

Hi - I think that having a global "We are Family" Day would be a powerful way to celebrate our positive potential, remind us of our commonalities, and help us remember to love our differences. It can be a significant way for us to really break down walls and start to reveal a new landscape of humanity - brighter & better than ever before.
Here's a short poem I recently wrote about this idea that may express my feelings more eloquently:
Another Midnight Meditation
Let serenity prevail,
to outshine despondency and anger.
Let civility prevail,
to encircle the world
like an unbroken, unfading, luminous rainbow.
Let love rush back to us all
like an unstoppable tide of light,
like autumn's startling gusts,
and again infuse our hearts
with the art of living.
