Declare San Diego A Shall Issue County

In view of the many deadly assaults on law abiding citizens who because of the current practices of Sheriff Kolender and the San Diego Sheriff's Department, are unable to lawfully carry a concealed firearm for personal protection, we, the residents and voters of San Diego County call upon Sheriff William Kolender to declare San Diego a "Shall Issue" County for concealed carry weapons permits (CCW's). Currently San Diego County only issues .000583% CCW's to it's residents. This policy has enabled criminals to have the upper hand and has endangered law abiding citizens. This practice must stop and ALL citizens applying for the permit and meeting the requirements for background checks and training MUST be issued CCW's. The signers of this petition vow to support any candidate for Sheriff, San Diego City Council, Mayor and County Supervisor that also supports our right to self protection and the reform of CCW practices in San Diego County. The signers of this petition also vow to actively oppose any candidate that refuses to affirm these rights. We, the undersigned are lawful residents of San Diego County, CA.

I believe that every law abiding citizen should have the right to protect themselves. That means they should be able to defend themselves when hiking in the back country like myself. Too often is can be very scary to be hiking in a remote area and encounter mountain lions or migrants who may wish you harm. There is not enough rangers or police patrols to be every where and often times the police is a reactionary entity not really able to protect.

Crime in my area has been rising steadily, yet I must leave my home at my own peril, disarmed and defenseless, because of this policy.

Criminals are going to carry anyway, so what benefit can be realized by disarming honest citizens? Why is the Sheriff's Department so Hell-bent on assuring criminals that their lives are not at risk while they rob, rape and murder?

As someone who works in the nightlife industry; working with large amounts of cash, and sometimes being involved in situations that result in the arrests of not so nice people, I would like to be able to walk to my vehicle after work at 4am knowing that I will be able to protect my person to the fullest extent.
