Deputy Sheriff Harold Michael (Mike) Altman

Deputy Sheriff Harold Michael Altman Memorial

Target:
General Public
Sponsored by:
Our son Deputy Sheriff Mike Altman was shot and killed by two thugs in Marianna, Florida on January 30, 2007. He was shot with armour piercing bullets, which are both illegal on both the federal and state levels. Our goal is to bring this issue of illegal use of armour piercing bullets before government officials and get the law enforced and make people who sell them to the public just as responsible as the one who pulls the trigger.

We would appreciate you signing this petition. When the number of signers reach about 10,000 we will present the petition and signatures to government officials. Thank you.

These laws must be more strictly enforced, not only for the protection of law enforcement officers but for the general public. No one is safe from those who choose to load a weapon with ammunition which has no purpose but to kill everyone they encounter.

I'm a very strong proponent of 2nd amendment rights, personal carry laws and the ability of law abiding citizens to defend themselves. But, armor piercing bullets should not be available to the general public and the states and federal governments should take whatever reasonable steps that are necessary to keep this ammunition out of the hands of criminals.

My wife, Denise Neu, is a retired Cincinnati Police Officer. I am very grateful she made it to retirement safely. Police officers risk their lives every day of their careers. We MUST provide legislation which will help ensure their safety. Yes, police officers are hired to serve and protect, but should not have to sacrifice their own lives in the line of duty. Sincerely, Jeffery Neu

I hate to think after everything that law enforcement officers do to protect all of us, that we allow bullets on our streets that could go through their bullet proof vests. These vests are what we clothe our husbands/brothers/fathers in and we rely on them to help protect our officers. Please get these bullets off the streets and help protect our family.

How tragic that this deputy's loss of life could have possibly been prevented if the laws were enforced. Government needs to step up to the plate and make the sellers and buyers of these deadly bullets be responsible for the harm, death, and sorrow that these things cause.

How horrible that the men and women who protect our lives and property are not thought well enough of by our government to take this one step to help make their jobs a tiny bit safer. Maybe they should all have to ride along with an officer in the bad part of town on a Friday or Saturday night and experience a little of the fear and violence our officers deal with daily.

AS A PARAMEDIC IN NEW YORK, I HAVE SEEN ALL TOO MANY TIMES YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN SUCUMBE TO THE HORROR OF FATAL GUNSHOT WOUNDS, AND NOTHING IS MORE TRAGIC THAN RESPONDING TO AN OFFICER DOWN CALL, THESE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN IN BLUE SWEAR TO PROTECT THE VERY FIBER OF ALL OUR SOULS REGARDLESS OF RACE ,COLOR OR RELIGOUS BELIEF. WHY IS IT SO HARD FOR OUR ELECTED OFFICALS, WHO ARE PROTECED BY OUR MANY LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS. TO OPEN THEIR EYES AND NOT TURN A BLIND EYE TO A PROBLEM THAT THEY CAN FIX WITH A STROKE OF A PEN. MAYBE IT IS AS SIMPLE AS TO LET THEM WALK A MILE IN THE SHOES OF THE BRAVE MEN AND WOMEN WHO HAVE SWORN TO PROTECT THEM, THEN AND ONLY MAYBE THEN WILL THEY REALIZE, THAT THE PEN CAN BE MIGHTIER THAN THE FELON WIELDING THE 9mm. I CAN ONLY HOPE AND PRAY THAT THESE WORDS DO NOT FALL ON THE DEAF EAR THAT WE CALL OUR GOVERENMENT.

The people who sell armor piercing ammunition to the public are as guilty of first degree murder as the person who pull the trigger. There is absolutely no need for the general population to have these armor piercing rounds, unless they have criminal intent. Protect the public and protect the brave men and women in this country who serve and protect us, now!
