    In this day and age there is much interest in the possibility of living longer, even living forever. Some people are very excited about the prospect, others write it off as an impossibility of science fiction, and some some still are against the whole notion.

The technology exists. Plenty of scientific research has proven that our lifespans can be increased exponentially. And with more research, 'exponentially' could turn into indefinitely.

As exciting a time as this may be, taking a more long term look at the situaiton (albeit just as selfish a look), reveals that if people stop dying - unless there is some kind of ban put on reproducing (which would in no way be an invasion of personal rights) - then we will become severely overpopulated and unable to produce enough resources to keep everyone alive. Dying from starvation is at least on par with dying of old age, if not worse. Wars over resources are also almost guaranteed: wars have been fought for much more trivial things.

Furthermore, without even looking beyond today, millions of people die everyday from preventable diseases. And many die from diseases we have yet to find a cure for.  Any extra funding available in these financially unstable times should go to providing available cures to all, and researching unavailable ones before it goes anywhere near researching longevity.



**to be clear, 'Longevity' in this sense does not include the study of how to live healthier so that you have less problems throughout the aging process. This petition fights against the halting or removal of the aging process, and requests that funds for this purpose be better used to the benefit of all.

***also to be clear, one fact cited in this campaign's media is a sum of money allotted to the National Institute of Aging;  One focus of this particular organization is Alzheimer's research. We are not against this, that falls under the umbrella of 'currently incurable diseases' that we promote the use of funding for. This is merely a concrete value of money directed towards aging research overall.
