We, the undersigned demand that the Fort Carson NEPA process (environmental study) called Grow the Army be suspended until many new facts about the economy and the foreign policy of the United States can be fully assessed. We implore our legislators and the president to reconsider the whole Grow the Forces program because the nation cannot afford the $70 billion increase in defense spending that it will entail and because the forces will not be needed as troops are returned from Iraq. Further there is no way to divorce this proposed expansion from the Army's push for huge tracts of land to be added to the Pinon Canyon Maneuver Site against the wishes of ranchers and other residents of Southeast Colorado. The people have already spoken on this and need to be heard.

Peace and non violence are crucial.Let's put resources instead into feeding, housing the word, caring for the sick.
When its been known for years that length of life is correlated to income, its time to put as many resources as possible into ending poverty, not into killing and contaminating the earth with our weapons of mass destruction. Sylvia Strickland

Destroying archeological information, life styles, indian burial grounds, natural habitats, and one of the most fragile ecosystems we have to usurp more land for military expansion when we already have sufficient land available in New Mexico is a poor investment. Rezone the NM land for multipurpose and leave Colorado alone. Our military already has more dedicated land than many countries in the world have in total. Leave the pairs of nesting golden eagles and redtail hawks alone. No future acts of congress would be able to reverse the damages that would be incurred. Spend the money on education, alternative energy research, job development, health care, or even a Congressional Ball. Just don't waste it on this project. It sends the wrong message on too many levels.

I have a better idea for the army; since we now own Iraq, just set up all training operations in theatre. It's a win-win situation. All of our equipment is already on site and the conditions are exactly what our men will be fighting in. All you have to do is tell the enemy that they can't attack until our boys are trained. I'm sure they'll comply since they really must be so grateful for the democracy we have so generously given them. Right? This will allow us to preserve our own real estate for developers and the extractive industries so that we can prosper and become energy independant. Give it some thought, okay?

The city of Colorado Springs is not equipped to handle growth of this magnitude. It's an unfair burden to the people of our region. Also, forcing people from their lands is unethical and rather high and mighty for a government whom continues to hand out good money after bad to failing conglomerates. Maybe we should let them fail (like the rest of us taxpayers).Being a bully and taking what people have worked lifetimes for is unconscionable.

When I joined the U.S. Air Force, I took an oath to defend our Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic. The Patriot Act along with Homeland Security and the military-industrial-complex pose greater domestic threats to our Constitution and our Civil Liberties than any foreign threat in the world today.
The military's job is to serve and protect the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, which includes the right to own property. To do otherwise is TREASON!

Please change the mindset of "might makes right". Instead of growing armies, grow community workers who build towns and bring communities togeher, across artificial boundaries.
Please, for our children and grandchildren. We've had too many wars.****Let's Give Peace a Chance****

We are perceived as an imperialist nation, and growth of forces will reinforce that perception. We must focus our energies on the global financial crisis, and growth of forces will drain funds from that effort.

Colorado Springs' economy is lopsided. Further growth in only one sector will not help us to become a thriving and various city. The "military-industrial" complex that Eisenhower foretold does not benefit soldiers or their families, it only benefits corporations. The recession forces us to be more prudent and allows us to simply say enough; in this way it might be a gift.
