Do we Need The Lord's Prayer?

Do we Need The Lord's Prayer?

Target:
CANADIAN LEGISLATURE
Sponsored by:
A proposal to scrap the reading of the Lord's Prayer in the legislature (Ontario, CANADA)

I believe
we should follow suit & recite a non-denominational prayer or have a moment of silence to gather their thoughts and understand the importance of their jobs/role in our government. (Both the House of Commons and the Senate recite non-denominational prayers.)

PLEASE sign this petition!
Let our government know The Lord's Prayer is respected but not needed in this forum any longer.
Below is a follow-up article, for more background information.

IF it's not broke DON'T fix it! I'm tired of people coming into our country and trying to change everything. This is a Christian Country - it was founded as Christian country - if you don't like it then LEAVE!

This is a group of people representing all different faiths... The Christian "Lord" has no place in our legislature.

A prayer can be anything from the silent one, to the written one, and even those on the run. If that prayer is from the heart. Why not Honor it, Respect it, and Trust that it did come from the heart? It doesn't have to be in religion, it's in all religions. Do we need the the Lord's Prayer? In most cases "YES". To force someone to say a prayer when they do not want to, is just wrong. Makes that person who is doing it, dumb.

I personally it think it is more effective if you let someone take a moment for scilent prayer then forcing them to say something they might not want to every day. I think people connect more when they get to connect their own way.

Why pray to something that has never existed?

Religion and politics don't mix, as several areas of the world bear violent witness. Besides, I firmly believe that religion should be a private matter between an individual and his/her God, not to be paraded in public or inflicted on others.

Best to separate Church and State.

Religion is an excuse for violence, & a way to control the masses. Why should one be valued above the other? If you want to say something truly Christian,Why not recite "Treat thy neighbor as you would be treated", instead?!!!!!!!

Look at the USA as an example: when they took "GOD" out of our schools and public places, this country has been in a downward spiral. Our children are being gunned down in schools and shopping malls. There is no respect of persons or properties.Don't let this happen to Canada! Keep the Lord's Prayer! For your sake and the sake of future generations.

Our country was founded on christian beliefs and not Muslim, Jewish or any other faith. We CANNOT give away a fundamental right to accomodate once again immigrants, non believers etc..........

Something's inconsistent here... I believe **we** should follow suit & recite a non-denominational prayer or have a moment of silence to gather **their** thoughts. A moment of silence maybe, but not a prayer - even "non-denominational". I don't think our paid MPPs should be talking to an imagionary friend on our time.

A moment of silence is required, I believe.
