DOG KILLED BY CEBU DOCTORS' UNIVERSITY STAFF

On October 4, 2010, a Cebu Doctors' University janitorial staff killed an innocent stray dog with a stick in the parking lot of the University. This tragedy was filmed by an ABS-CBN reporter and featured in their website:  www.abs-cbnnews.com.

IRO, Island Rescue Organization (Cebu), Animal Welfare Coalition (Manila), Friends for the Protection of Animals, USA, and all the signatories in this petition are outraged with such a violent and illegal act from one of Cebu Doctors' staff. The killing of this innocent dog is clearly in violation of Republic Act 8485, Section 6, which states in part, "It shall be unlawful for any person to torture any animal, to neglect to provide adequate care, sustenance or shelter, or maltreat any animals. . . ."

The signatories of this Petition demand the following:

1.  That the University Administration develop a policy to be implemented immediately that is in compliance with Republic Act 8485.

2.  That the University Administration hold a mandatory in-service training with all their staff on the above stated new policy.

3.  That the University Administration immediately discipline the staff member/s responsible for killing the innocent dog.

Violent acts against animals will not be tolerated in our communities.
