Downtown St. Louis' Washington Avenue Garment District goes Green

Target: STL Garment District Registered Voters, Property Owners & Business Owners
Sponsored by: 3Degrees RileyWaldrop Kwame Building Group Jacob Development Group
The following applies to Property Owners or Business Owners or Registered Voters in the City of St. Louis living and or working in the area bounded by Tucker Blvd. to the east, 18th St. to the west, St. Charles St. to the south and Lucas Ave. to the north (the core of the Washington Avenue Garment District)

We the undersigned:

In 1999 the City of St. Louis adopted a plan, largely orchestrated by renowned design-planning firm Kiku Obata & Company, that outlined many modern improvements to be made to what is currently and historically known as the Washington Avenue Garment District.

This plan was executed by local construction firms Kwame Construction Group & Kozeny-Wagner Inc. and funded by a $17M ($17,000,000) cash injection attained by the great City of St. Louis.

The plan provided for many infrastructure improvements between 12th St. (Tucker Blvd.) and 18th St. along Washington Avenue and various cross streets--the cross street infrastructure improvements ending to the north at Lucas Ave. and to the South at St. Charles Street ("the Street").

To date, the entire plan has not been realized (public art, theatrical lighting on side streets, urban in-fill parameters, etc.).

However, in the spirit of continuing the City of St. Louis' progressive foresight in creating this plan, and in an attempt to alter the plan to mimic present day Garment District resident and business owners' forward-thinking mind sets--by signing this petition--we are authorizing the City of St. Louis to further our neighborhood's modernization by contracting with AmerenUE's Pure Power program so that the energy for our modern street lights can immediately be drawn from green energy sources (wind, water...) within the boundaries of the Street.

Excerpt from www.ameren.com/PurePower/ ..."Pure Power--AmerenUE's voluntary renewable energy program--empowers AmerenUE electric customers to support wind farms and other renewable energy facilities in the Midwest."

Simultaneously, we will be supporting green companies as they already begin moving into the most creative, entrepreneurial and forward-thinking district in downtown St. Louis--the Washington Avenue Garment District.

We hope all property owners, business owners and registered voters will support this effort to make the Washington Avenue Garment District Go Green by e-signing this petition.

Thank you for your support.
