You've seen plenty of sci-fi flicks in your lifetime, sure. And sometimes you just want to believe... But some of us really appreciate seeing the results of actual space exploration ending up in our favorite sci-fi adventures. Which is why we're glad that films like Contact and 2009's Star Trek have employed the consulting services of the eminent space scientist Carolyn Porco. However! We feel that adding Dr. Porco to a list of about 10,000 credits and inviting her to the Hollywood premiere is not quite enough. We therefore have created this petition...
WHEREAS: Dr. Porco is as gifted a public speaker as any scientist we've ever heard; and
WHEREAS: There is probably no one living today who's as tirelessly dedicated to space exploration as Dr. Porco; and
WHEREAS: We think she'd look pretty awesome in a Federation uniform
THEREFORE: We the undersigned propose that J.J. Abrams & Co. ensure that Carolyn Porco has a cameo appearance in the next installment of the Star Trek filmseries. You know you want to sign it, so please do! And, ya know, live long and all the rest.

My Mom, Judith Ann Evans, was one of the original letter writers who convinced the network to save the original Star Trek from being cancelled.
In her name, I now ask that Dr. Carolyn Porco be granted a Cameo on a Star Trek movie.

If this is legit and she is doing good sciencery for the world and she wants the cameo, let's get her the cameo.

Definitely - she should be given a part where she is consulted as a crew member doing analysis of a planetary body.

Dr Porco is without question the major public connection for an amazing team....the imaging coming out of Cassini was what 1st caught my attention then the prolific output complete with simple but accurately detailed scientific explanations that satisfy both my grandkids & my needs means that she is a superstar spokesperson who would do well in Star Trek as a 2nd career!

I had a cameo in a Star Trek spoof made by a friend of mine, wearing a uniform and all. It was awesome. This would be even more awesome and I think she deserves the awesomeness.

The work of true scientists deserves to be recognized in public ways. Besides, there is nothing quite like granting the dream of another trekkie.

There's more than one generation of scientists who have been inspired by Star Trek, and we always need more. Make at least one of them happy, give them a chance to be in StarFleet!

The lovely, talented and enthusiastic Dr. Carolyn Porco absolutely would add a fitting real life element into the next Star Trek Movie. Please consider placing her in a cameo.

Geez! Dr. Porco would be a great Vulcan in the next ST movie. Give us a break and let her play a part. She has many fans, knows more about space than all of us. Would be easy to train for the part as she is a seasoned veteran in public speaking. Very personable, popular and photogenic. She even looks kinda Vulcan sans the ears. Been in many science shows,so is familiar with production. The same people who watch them also watch ST and would simply fall out of their chairs to see her on the big screen. No kidding, I am one of them.

Better yet, a role for Dr. Carolyn Porco in Astrometrics

Who better than C.P. to give the present a face in our very own future? Since Sagan's passing, the wonder of exploration has been conveyed, through Carolyn, to many of us who marveled at Sputnik, as well as our children and grandchildren who still feel the thrill.
It only seems right that hers should be that same joyous face that speaks to my grandchildren's grandchildren as a character in the film.
Naturally, her character ought to have a few kind words to say about the "early days" of exploration with reference to whatever plot line XII will have.
Mr. Abrams could not make many finer casting decisions...

Why just a cameo? A small role for Carolyn !

The "secret sauce" in the early days of Star Trek was it's involvement of real science thinkers and enthusiasts ("let's think about what a future ship might look like" vs "take a cigar and cut some windows in the side!"). Involving people like Carolyn (as you did with Mae Jemison) keeps that community engaged and supportive

Successful, enthusiastic scientists should be seen by the public doing awesome things (like starring in popular sci-fi movies!) to improve the public image of science and scientists. We're not all old, white men in lab coats, and science is not boring!

Carolyn Porco is like an ambassador between our planet and the universe. If there were a StarFleet, there is little dounbt that Ms. Porco would be commanding presence pm on the bridge, perhaps as a science officer.
