eBay Buyer and Seller Strike February 18-25th, 2008

Target:
eBay Inc.
Sponsored by:
If you're signing this petition after the initial boycott Feb. 18-25th, please state in the Comments section when/how long you will be boycotting eBay.

On January 29, 2008, eBay Inc. announced a set of sweeping policy and fee changes that would negatively affect large numbers of sellers and buyers. Chief among these changes are increased final value fees, the dismantling of a mutual feedback system, and undefined Paypal hold periods.

The final value fee of the first $25 of any purchase has increased from 5.25% to 8.75%. The final value fee of eBay store items has increased from 10% to 12%. While eBay has reduced the insertion fees, the savings is wiped out by a disproportionately higher final value fee. We believe this change will hurt all sellers and hinder their ability to be competitive in the marketplace.

In May 2008, the mutual feedback system will be drastically altered. Buyers will continue to be able to leave positive or negative feedback on transactions; sellers will be restricted to leaving only positive feedback for their buyers, regardless of the outcome of the transaction. The role of feedback has consistently been to protect buyers and sellers. We do not believe this will protect sellers. We believe this new policy will increase fraud and feedback extortion on eBay. It will increase non-paying bidders and lead to an overall unwarranted increase in negative feedback for sellers, which will in turn make more buyers reticent about buying on eBay.

Starting February 20, 2008, if eBay has a reason to think that a transaction might result in the buyer being unsatisfied, Paypal will withhold the transaction funds from the seller for 21 days. The criteria for determining which transactions will end in buyer dissatisfaction has not been clearly defined. Sellers have no way of knowing if their transactions will fall into that category.

Sellers have been the cornerstone of eBay since it was founded 13 years ago. We feel that eBay is taking advantage of us. These newest changes have proven to us that we are not a prime concern to eBay and we have no reason to believe that we will be in the future.

We, the sellers and buyers of eBay, agree to refrain from buying and selling on eBay the week of February 18-25th, 2008.

Please contact your local news stations about these changes and the ongoing resistance from eBay users. And take a minute to explore the other auction and classifieds sites that are out there. Consider boycotting eBay longer than one week if possible.

It is nearly impossible to make any kind of reasonable profit or living from Ebay. It kills the "little guy's " profits entirely. Why can't it give the seller a break, like ecrater does? The only way to make any consumer impact here is to completely boycott them until their wallet hurts, and they finally get the message. Good job, good folks!! I am with you!

Have been on strike since summer 2007 anyway as a buyer; now on strike as a buyer since I know I'll pay more in the long run. I'm essentially a one-category buyer and can do better on both ends elsewhere. eBay has had this coming for a long, long time. Good riddance.

Hi~ By imposing anonymous bidder ID's, all eBay has achieved, is to cut Unique User ID exposure in half! This new move is too drastic, it limits User Name exposure, limiting buyer to seller contact. It's simply stupid to make bidder ID's exclusive to just the seller and buyer involved in one transaction. I would never have limited possible links for sellers and buyers. A user name is something personal, an identity. A User ID must be of one's own choosing. I personally hate eBay assigning an anonymous ID to me. Sellers and Buyers can't work in this overly controlling environment now. With one swift move eBay has reduced all the hard work and investment (financially and emotionally) put into my spot on eBay, to near destruction and uselessness. I don't feel like browsing and bidding, it's too depressing and dangerous now. I REFUSE TO SELL UNDER THE CURRENT CIRCUMSTANCES AND MAY NEVER SELL ON MY SITE AGAIN UNLESS THERE IS A REVERSE IN THE CHANGES. I want everyone to see my user name, eBay Store, feedback and "about me" icons and openness needs to be restored. Exposure, accessibility, trust and familiarity are the purpose of placing icons. Right? Marketing, exposing, getting yourself out there to be seen as much as possible to sell is the aim. Apparently not now. It's sad. There is so much security on eBay. With this new idea, I now believe eBay has gone too far and is defeating it's own purpose. eBay is supposed to be all about exposure for buying and selling and that should be maximized not minimized. All avenues to connect buyers and sellers must be open to maximize exposure. There's something really wrong with this new security measure. It feels like being cut off, blocked and blinded this way. I used to be content and happy on eBay prior to the changes...This hurts all Sellers and Buyers! eBay too, I would imagine, I don't know their agenda. I can only guess. Anonymous bidder ID's appeared out of nowhere. At first I thought a bunch of new users were sneaking around~ Or that a lot of people were getting 2nd and 3rd ID's, but it was puzzling they all looked the same. Then I thought, must be one seller using 20 ID's all at once! My heart dropped when I realized my friends had just been made invisible! The feeling was so strong I contacted eBay only to get a condescending response as to how everyone will be safer. It didn't take too long to realize eBay was really concerned with second chance offer fraud. That excuse is highly over exaggerated. At least by my experience on eBay, I have not had a problem. Anonymous bidder ID's can only limit selling and buying, since buyers have one less way to browse. This is the beginning of a huge problem for eBay. The scholar that came up with the stupid idea has only achieved that which goes against what America is all about...the constitution. Rights and Freedoms! Not supposed to censure or cover up any User name in a public place, against the will of User's. On top of it, censuring for eBay's own selfish interests. At the very least a vote should have been taken before imposing anonymous bidder ID's and taking away seller right and ability to leave negative feedback. I'm proud of my name. I do not see how my name is a security risk in any way, shape or form. And I have never had a problem with outsiders offering me anything. If someone contacts me I have the option to delete the message, I don't need eBay to that for me by blinding me. I personally hate the idea that someone else tells me I cannot have my own name showing and even changes my name to the public eye! Concerning the negative feedback option taken away from sellers: eBay's justification for doing this is lame and insulting, besides creating a very unfair disadvantage to sellers. Good luck...this really is a problem eBay cannot ignore. luckiethree

No negative feedback is unfair as I am an honest seller and now buyers will think they can threaten with negative even when you described your items accurately and honestly. Ebay should protect their sellers as that is how they make their money. ebay continues to bite the hand that feeds it. Increased fees, banning negative feedback to bad sellers and overall lack of support for sellers. We need to support this petition and overturn the new unfair practices to ebay members. Count Me In! ebay continues to bite the hand that feeds it. Increased fees, banning negative feedback to bad sellers and overall lack of support for sellers. We need to support this petition and overturn the new unfair practices to ebay members. Count Me In! Today I'm searching for new auctions sites.

eBay is crazy, they make a lot of bad moves in the last days. They implement "Best Match" like default sort method.... all my sales go down!!! .... and with the new final fees... all the income is very low now. In this moment I'm not selling or buying anything. Today I'm searching for new auctions sites... probably ebay will die in short time if they don't change for good

Ebay is not what it used to be anymore. One of my auctions got banned because I was selling an unused cd key for a game I no longer play, and when I searched to see if there were any others on ebay, there were HUNDREDS for sale, with some near the end. Why was mine banned and not theirs?

I believe ebay has changed from something that was once a great opportunity to something that has started to rob people of their profits and should be changed back.

we sell online to run away from shop rentals. we sell online to at least earn from items that we no longer dun need. we sell online for others to buy our in-good-condition 2nd stuffs. we sell online just merely to clear space and for the fun of it. now we are paying huge fees to just pass the time.

eBay is obviously run by a bunch of arrogant, half-wit greed heads, people who run things without a clue about how those things actually work ... they don't have the experience but they make the rules and change them at whim, trying to fix something that's not broke. I participated in the boycott for 2 weeks and plan to sell far less on eBay while searching for alternatives.

I have been using ebay for a very long time and these sudden and unfair charges are simply unreasonable! I am not going to use ebay anymore unless justice has been done.
