(1) ECOPISTEMOLOGY is defined as the investigation of the structure and organization of knowledge in concern of human relationships to the environment.
The word ECOPISTEMOLOGY needs to exist because we need to address the multi-scale fragmentation of perceptions, language systems, and value systems that exists in the modern university, which expands outward to fragmented organization of departments and academic bureaucracies, leading to relative inability of interdisciplinary communication and collaboration in constructing a common vision in concern of coupled human-environmental problems.
