Encouraging John Dingell to Lead on Global Warming

Encouraging John Dingell to Lead on Global Warming

Target:
Congressman John Dingell of Michigan

Dear Representative Dingell,

Because of your role as Chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee, you are in a unique position to lead America in an energy revolution and stop global warming. Scientists tell us we have less than ten years to avoid the worst impacts from global warming. Unchecked, global warming will continue to fuel dangerous summer heat waves in Michigan and lead to higher concentrations of asthma causing pollution.  Our winter weather will also become less predictable, threatening tourism and recreation opportunities like ice fishing and snowmobiling.

I commend you for recognizing the problem of global warming. As your constituent, I support you in championing forward-thinking legislation like a national renewable portfolio standard of at least 20 percent by 2020 that includes incentives for wind, solar and other distributed energy installations.  I also urge you to support a significant increase in the national fuel economy standards equal, at a minimum, to the one the Senate passed, thereby securing the auto industry and Michigan jobs by creating cars Americans want to buy.

The technology to stop global warming is here now. All we lack is the political will. Michigan has a unique opportunity to lead the world in the fight against global warming and the effort to develop clean energy technologies. Please do what's right for the people of Michigan and the world. I'm counting on you to protect my future from global warming.

Sincerely,

I don't believe in global warming or climate change (no serious scientists do), but I'm heavily invested in solar power companies.
