I HATE brussel sprouts!! I find them disgusting! I hope and pray that all persons participating in the raising, distrubution, sale, or consumption of these horrible vegetables will, one day, come to see the error of their ways and cease and desist. But, since doing any of the above is not illegal, I draw the line at trying to enforce my desires on others. The most I can do is try to persuade others to see it my way.
That being said, I think it immoral to hope for the death of anyone who doesn't. It is perfectly reasonable to petition others in order to influence them to do what you want. Hence, this petition.
But! (And it is a big "but"), It is NOT OK to want to murder people who do things that you, personally. find disgusting, immoral, illegal and/or fattening! Beastiality is illegal. It may be disgusting to some. It may be morally reprehensable, though not disgusting to others. I do not think it is fattening. Murder (ie. shooting, dismembering, etc.) which I found to be advocated here by a disturbing number of signers, is also illegal. And it is morally reprehensable and to some, disgusting. Killing someone for ANY reason is so dangerous to society, that we have all agreed that the state ie. the U.S.A. and the several states have an absolute monopoly on that right. Anyone who does it is guilty of a very serious crime. He or she must be tried in a court of law, found guilty on good evidence. and properly sentenced to death in order to be executed. Advocating murder is, in itself, illegal and a punishable offence, even a felony, in some jurisdictions.
The behaviour you despise, this so-called "cruelty" to animals is not cruel in the ordinary meaning of the term. It does not cause pain or suffering. It does not offend the animal's sense of right & wrong (if, indeed, they have such a sense, and I believe they do). The real reason it is illegal is because it hampers the state's ability to exert total control over the individual's ability to choose fo himself the means of satisfying his or her own desires. All states have, since time immemorial, arrogated to themselves this power. Not to do so would place the state itself in danger of dissolution. This is a grave danger, not only to the state, but also to the individuals who live in it. But it also places these individuals in another grave danger: to allow the state to succeed in its quest for total power places many of them in the position of needing to become criminals in order to live satisfying and fulfilled lives. This is an insupportable position to most people. Hence, the neverending power struggle between the state, considered as an entity, and the individuals who live in it and who's lives depend on it's proper functioning.
The idea of beastiality, like all such similar "sexual" notions, is, essentially morally neutral. No one is really hurt by such activity; not the people doing it , not even the animals to whom it is done. But, it stands in for other notions which are not neutral. This is the reason most of us react so intensely to it. It threatens to overturn the status quo in the arrangements which govern our safety and wellbeing, even our identity. We, feeling threatened, respond with sometimes murderous intensity. It is up to each of us, individually, and as citizens, to think clearly about such issues and to foster the rule of reason, tempered with responsible sentiment and even passion, in order to exercise the capacity for honest considered judgement in such, and all other, cases.
