End Breed Specific Legislation in Australia

Breed Specific Legislation (BSL) is a petition that I am sure has been begun and sent through to the government more times than I can count.
I am HOPING that with my connections through my career that I might be able to get some sort of response, but this unfortunately I cannot guarentee.

I am starting this petition, even though there have been petitions started before because I won't stop until I get the signatures we need - which might seem like a lot of signatures - however I will be advertising it around my workplace and everywhere else I can think of.

Here is some information I found interesting on 'Dogs Life':

Most people are familiar with the Salem witch trials of 1692, where names were %u2018cried out%u2019 and death and horrific suffering followed. Incredibly, it%u2019s back, only now they are targeting innocent dogs and their owners. It%u2019s called breed specific legislation and it%u2019s destroying lives in a sweeping worldwide epidemic.

Echoing similar laws introduced overseas that were spurred on by a string of dog attacks, restricted breed legislation first came into effect in South Australia in 1995, then quickly spread to New South Wales in 1998, Queensland and Victoria in 2001, and Western Australia in 2002. %u2018Restricted breeds%u2019 are defined as those dogs prohibited from being imported by the Commonwealth Government and include the Dogo Argentina, the Japanese Toso, the Fila Brasilia and the American Pit Bull Terrier or Pit Bull Terrier. The legislation was supposedly put into force to outlaw %u2018fighting%u2019 breeds.

According to Dogs Down Under, a NewsPoll survey conducted in Queensland and Victoria in 2001, more than 76 per cent of respondents believed some dog breeds are more likely to bite than others. When asked how they formed this opinion, almost 75 per cent said they had read it in the papers or heard it on the news.

According to the German Shepherd Dog Council of Australia, in 1929 we were the first country in the world to restrict the ownership of the German Shepherd because some believed they would breed with Dingoes and produce %u2018super sheep killers%u2019.

If you want more information then you can google 'breed specific legislation' and there will be more than enough information there.

Please help me in fighting this because I am determined to make things change and I promise you I won't stop until I do.
