End Puppy Mill Cruelty!

Man's best friend... or man's cash-crop? In puppy mills, dogs are confined in cramped, unsanitary cages. Mother dogs are kept pregnant constantly and killed when they can't produce a full litter, at around five years old. In transport to pet stores, ten or more puppies travel in one cage. Dogs, with their endless capacity for love, trust, and loyalty, are treated as unfeeling commodities.
Though they unfailingly deny it, virtually every pet store buys from puppy mills. There are around 5,000 puppy mills in the United States, and they are recognized by rural counties as an easy way to make a profit. Puppy mills are not only the cause of suffering for thousands of dogs, they are the death warrant of millions of animals in shelters and pounds across the nation. People want a cute, little puppy in a pet store instead of an old, unwanted mixed breed.
When puppy mills violate the Animal Welfare Act, they are rarely shut down or even fined. The enforcement of animal rights laws is mild, flexible, and overall uncaring. Within hours of adoption, pets often show signs of severe neurological disorders. Their paws are injured from the wire mesh floors of their cages, their fur is invested with parasites, and their lives are permanently scarred.
Unbelievably, puppy mills comprise 80% of the American Kennel Club's business. The AKC does not inspect the puppy mills that they profit from. It is fair to say that the AKC is the most respected canine organization in America. Their ironic slogan is "We're more than champion dogs. We're the dog's champion." Tell them to turn this into the truth!
We have benefited from dogs' unwavering loyalty and unadulterated love for centuries. Now it's time to give something back.
We the undersigned are concerned about the kennels that supply your store with dogs. In puppy mills, dogs are confined in cramped, unsanitary cages. Females are kept pregnant constantly and killed when they can't produce a full litter, at around five years old. In transport to pet stores, ten or more puppies travel in one cage. Dogs, with their endless capacity for love, trust, and loyalty, are treated as unfeeling commodities.
There are around 5,000 puppy mills in the United States, and
their focus is unfailingly on profit instead of care. Puppy mills are not only the cause of suffering for thousands of dogs,
they are the death warrant of millions of homeless animals in pounds and shelters across the nation. People want a cute, little puppy from a pet shop instead of an old, unwanted mixed breed.
When puppy mills violate the Animal Welfare Act, they are rarely shut down or even fined. The enforcement of animal rights laws is mild, flexible, and overall indifferent. Within hours of adoption, pets often show signs of
severe neurological disorders. Their paws are injured from the wire mesh floors of their cages, their fur is invested with parasites, and their lives are permanently scarred.
We have benefited from dogs' unwavering loyalty and unadulterated love for centuries.
Now it's time to give something back. Please consider selling puppies from the humane society at your store, or at least do thorough background checks to be sure of where the dogs came from and how they were treated.
Thank you for your time.
