We the undersigned believe in human and civil rights we believe that each man woman and child has the right to a life free from torture.
Every day thousands of people across America are receiving brain damaging torture through the accepted and legal use of Electric Shock Treatments. Many are being forced to undergo as many as 100 or more treatments by the court system.

It should be against the Geneva Convention as well as a banned practice by the AMA; and I am appalled to find it gaining favor again in these times. Shall we expect another doctor like Dr. Walter Freeman to drive around in a "lobotomobile" bringing 'difficult' women to heel next? This is NOT medicine, it is torture.

Just when you think that it's safe to go in the water they empty the pool. This is as mind blowing as it gets. I am very aware of the abuses, side effects, liver damage, etc., of drugs coming out of the pharmaceutical industry and, I knew at one time that electric shock was used. I had no idea that it is still out there like something out of the days of Nazi Germany's Josef Mengele.. My God what sort of people administer this torture? Given the revelation of the last eight years, TORTURE being used against perceived enemies, one can understand who's been feeding life into this GOD awful torture. My grandmother was rendered completely incapable by shock treatments in the early 1950s. She no longer recognized people or places she had known. She entered treatment in her 60s and had been healthy throughout her life. Her family had trusted the doctors and were perplexed and confused about the results of treatment. She was considered insane and died in an institution.

my daughter was given ect's with the knowledge from her dr., that this is the only way she would get better. i beleive these dr.'s (so called) don't even care what happens to their patients, because they don't have a clue about ect's. except for getting the paycheck. i beleive God is really angry about ect's.

The final treatment I received left me unable to speak, walk without assistance, feed myself, coordinate my movements, or think clearly. Thankfully I have recovered from those specific symptoms but have been left cognitively disabled due to the ECT procedure. I have met and befriended other individuals also permanently harmed by ECT. This barbaric procedure is proposed to individuals and family at a time of crisis and typical apathy on the part of the patient, therefore comprehension of a "voluntary" ECT release form simply does not exsist. ECT impacts a patient forever, be it physically, psychologically, or both. ECT does nothing but harm, possibly permanently, patients and has the potential to kill.

Barbaric treatment especially for 2 -102 year old persons. It kills memory cells so it takes more from a child and the elderly. Technology has advanced so much there are many options to consider now.

We need to stop this abuse, along with other forms of abuse againts people with mental/personality problems. Such as putting them in solitary confinement in prisons or pumping them full of dangerous meds. Maybe overall better health is a better solution than further harm of the physical system. These things are barbaric! I have a friend who has had so many shock treatments, they can stick their finger in a live outlet (an open light-bulb socket, for instance) and they will simply say: "Yeh, I can feel that"...but it hardly fazes them! They have nerve damage/death, and too much electricity built up in their body to really feel (sensory-wise) sensations normally. This is a HORRIBLE thing to do to a human being. Please stop this NOW! Thank you! |
