Ending US use of landmines

President Obama is refusing to join in a global treaty to end the use of landmines.  As citizens of the world and the United States, we demand that President Obama rethink this position and act according to the will of the people whom he represents in the United States and those around the world whose eyes are on him and us.

The destruction caused by landmines cannot be overstated and the idea that this is still considered acceptable defense by the United States of America is unconscionable.  The blood of those shredded bodies of children, women, and men around the world shall not be on our hands and, as our president, he has no right to allow the global community to believe that this is the position we take on that detestable practice.

Once wars are over, landmines remain behind and just as dangerous as ever, going on to cause permanent damage and death to those unfortunate enough to find them.

Please help me in sending word to President Obama that this is an unacceptable practice for the United States to continue with and we do not support it in any way!

Thank you.

We the undersigned, by reason of conscience and freedom, request that you enter into the global treaty to eliminate the use of landmines world-wide despite stating that you would not consider doing so.

As a compassionate nation we cannot permit the use of these "weapons" that shred the bodies of their victims - often long after the wars they were used for have ended.

We thank you for acting on behalf of the citizens of the United States in a manner we can be proud of.
