Make the Women and Gender Studies Program at Hunter College a DEPARTMENT! WGS @ Hunter is one of the largest degree-granting entities of its kind in the country. Yet 35 years after its creation - at this former women's college - the program still does not have a voice in college governance and is starved for resources. Enfranchise WGS!

Dear President Raab,

We the undersigned demand that the Women and Gender Studies (WGS) Program at Hunter College be granted departmental status. WGS at Hunter is one of the largest degree-granting entities of its kind in the country. Over the last ten years, the WGS Program at Hunter College has experienced rapid growth, going from 38 majors in 2001 to more than 85 in 2010. However, even after more than doubling in size, we still operate with only one full-time, tenure-track faculty member. At this former women's college the program still does not have a voice in college governance and is starved for resources. This is an unsustainable crisis that can only be resolved by becoming a department. We demand that Hunter College enfranchise Women and Gender Studies!
