Too many homeless strays in Erie being shot by police.

Erie County needs more Animal Control officers and a spay/nueter program! Stop shooting dogs!!

Target:
County Executive: Mark DiVecchio, Mayor: Joseph Sinnott, City Council Pres.: Rubye Jenkins -Husband, City Council member: Patrick Cappabiaca
The City of Erie, PA.
The City of Erie, PA.
"We the undersigned ask that Erie County employ more Animal Control officers to humanely capture stray dogs.  Having only one Animal Control officer with the working hours of 8:00AM until 4:30PM cannot properly, and humanly handle all of the calls a city the size of Erie requires. The neglect in this department has resulted in the shooting deaths of at least 10 dogs in the year 2007.  We ask that said Animal Control officers work supportingly along side with area Rescues for the benefit of the animals. We also ask that the use of a stun agent be implemented as soon as possible to allow cornered dogs to be given the chance of a complete, calm, educated evaluation of temperment. The Erie police could then concentrate their time on finding, and stopping the abusive owners who use dogs for profit in dog fighting rings that are rampant in Erie.
We also ask that elected Erie County and City Officials start a reduced cost, spay and nuetering program in Erie to help owners afford this needed surgery, and help control over population of these stray animals.
A feral cat spay/nueter release program is also needed in Erie, and we ask that this be implemented as well.

Erie desperately needs a spay and neuter program to control the feral populations and reduce pet reproductions in the homes of uneducated owners.

no, i dont think 1 animal control officer can handle all of the strays and dangerous animals.

i think they should reduce cost of spay and nuter for animals in erie county because there are a lot of animal strays that need to be nutered.

Erie is in desperate need of more animal control officers to operate efficiently. This is important not just for the needy animals but for the community as a whole.

Reduced price spay and neutering will help control the over population of many animals.

The city is full of dogs and other animals that are so sick and not being taken care of. We need more officers but i think the ones we have now are doing there best.

It is shameful that the City doesn't do better for the animals roaming the streets. They are subject to parasites, disease, injury, and death. They breed unconrollably, and most of the time the puppies do not live. If they do live, they share in the same perils as thier parents. It is not only cuelty to the animals, but also a risk to human health. This City needs to do better by their citizens, 2 legged and 4 legged!!

my german shepherd was recently attacked by a pitbull that was let to roam free on the street without a collar or leash. it was almost impossible to get the dog off of mine. While I am able to recover the vet bill charges from the dog owner, there is nothing being done about the dog that attacked mine. there is a huge problem with these kinds of dog owners especially on the lower east side of town. we need someone to strictly enforce the leash laws at the very least. i can no longer walk my dog in my own neighborhood due to these dangers. its unfair

when i lived in pittsburgh i was able to take advantage of a similar program which i would not have been able to afford otherwise. it would help control the population in lower income areas, and possibly begin to reduce the tragedies of all these animals coming to sad ends.

I cannot believe that a city the size of Erie is so sorely lacking in resources to handle stray, injured and neglected animals. If it weren't for private individuals and volunteers who care enough to help, Erie County residents would have no one to turn to.
