ESCAPE TO CHIMP EDEN

Chimp Eden is the first and only Chimpanzee Sanctuary in South Africa. Most of the chimps rescued are orphans saved from bush meat hunters. Many come from the pet &/ entertainment trade.

An estimated 150,000 chimps are left in the wild.

This is an alarming figure, and only emphasizes the importance of such rehabilitation sanctuaries.

Conservationists, such as Eugene Cussons, travel all over the world - often to remote and hostile places, to save these chimps from a life of misery or certain death.

Safely back at Chimp Eden in South Africa (with aid from the Jane Goodall Institute), Eugene and the team of Chimp Eden attempt to rehabilitate these chimps, by teaching them the skills they would normally possess in the wild, and re-introducing them to other chimps.

The ultimate goal is to eventually release them back into the wild.

Shows like Escape to Chimp Eden are vital, not only in educating and creating a bigger awareness among the public, but also in generating a new mentality - a new more compassionate society.  A community that knows how important the conservation of wild chimps are, and a society that begins to understand that no cage is ever big enough.
