Expand Amtrak Across Missouri

Expand Amtrak Across Missouri

Target:
Amtrak, Missouri Legislature
Sponsored by:

Amtrak needs to expand Missouri rail service.  Such as the St. Louis-Kansas City line and the new route to Springfield, Missouri along the BNSF.  The schedule is at the mercy of U.P.'s stupidity.  We need to write to the Missouri house reps and senators to fund more Missouri trains and we also need to write to U.P. to show some respect to Amtrak.  U.P. is short for Union Pacific.  BNSF means Burlington Northern Santa Fe.  The route to Springfield would be going over the BSNF ex-Frisco Cuba sub.

We the undersigned would love to have more service.
Please give Amtrak riders a variety of trains to ride.  Gas prices are stupid!  The reason why the trains are 80 or 90% late on eastbound trains out of Kansas City is because of Union Pacific's stupidity.  UP seems to "hog" the tracks.  BNSF wouldn't dare do anything that stupid.  BNSF is one the kindest railraods on the freight railroad system.  With the trains, people are up and close to nature.  People who once drove I-70 are turning to the train for a much smoother ride.  And the train itself is a connection to the Katy Trail.  Thank you for taking yoru time to read this letter.

Rail travel is essential to our lives, we need an alternative to driving. Expanding routes is a great way to encourage rail travel.

Our rail system used to be the best in the world. Peak oil will make it a necessity again within our lifetimes. The sooner we re-invest in rail, the sooner our nation will become competitive in an energy starved world economy.

People in Springfield shouldn't have to drive to KC or STL to take the train. It's a big enough town and would bring in more tourists.

The government would rather spend the money on fixing rail lines for fema concentration camps like the one in beech grove indiana. Citizens don't seem to count anymore.

Though I am from Illinois, I also believe passenger service would be a benefit to the people of Missouri. I have traveled to K.C. from St. Louis on the train. I do believe that highway transport is more costly than rail passenger transport. We as a nation are wasting money making highway travel seem cheapeer than rail. The highways should be supported by tolls and we should get rid of our high gas taxes. Then it would be very clear that rail is less expensive.

Trains brings you closer to nature than highways. They are much better than driving long distances in a car or being wedged in an airplane seat.

Even though I am from Massachusetts, I can see the benefits of increased and expanded train service. The trains not only supply the badly needed alternative transport necessary to help with the global warming issue, the service also brings economical benefit to the towns that it connects to. When Amtrak and the state of Maine brought in the Downeaster service, many small shops, restaurants, and other stores, opened near the stations. These businesses not olny serve the passengers that dismbark at these locations, they also serve the community as well because people waiting for passengers at the station utilize the business community as well. Once decaying and declining cities along this line such as Haverhill and Exeter, the busiest areas in the cities is nearest the station with the refurbished buildings and the many antique stores and restaurants that have opened up in the recent years.
