Greetings,

My name is Adam Starks. I am a husband, father, a brother, a scholar, but above all else I am a fellow American. My friends and I are ordinary Americans from all walks of life. We are writing to express our solidarity with our Muslim American allies in a time of turbulence and uncertainty. We would also like to express our defenses against the bigotry and hatred that has been allowed to prevail on our airwaves and television screens. This toxic environment has been largely uncontested when these self-righteous individuals are on their national platforms. Whether or not this paranoia recedes in the short term, we will be there to advance your rights as American citizens.

In our America, you deserve understanding; not the brunt of the ignorance and outright hatred of a few. We understand that you deserve and are granted your constitutional rights and freedom to practice your Islamic faith peacefully alongside Christianity, Judaism and others. We are at a critical point in our country. I presume the vast majority of Americans embrace diversity in all forms. However, misinformation is infectious; while our extremists claim to be warning us of evils from abroad, they hypocritically spread misinformation to incite their followers. As our previous and current President has stated, we are at war with extremist, not Islam. This appears to be evident on our domestic territory as well. It is unknown to us how these few individuals have irresponsibly and consciously abused their right to free speech, but we want to make it unequivocally clear; they do not speak for us.

With that in mind, we offer open mindedness. We offer to transcend beyond our religious differences and offer friendship. Finally we offer you space and reason; the space to worship freely and the ability to reason with the peaceful accords in the Q%u2019uran. Please distribute this letter as far as your global network reaches. In closing, may our Muslim brethren and sisterhood witness the prevalence of peace within our nation and abroad.
