Fair Slate for everyone

Target:
250000

Fair Slate is a Non Profit Organization.  Our organization was created due to a void in fairness when it comes to people who were convicted of a felony and fulfilled their debt to society.  Currently people with Felony criminal records, regardless of how far back in time they occurred are seen as outcast or not seen at all.
Fair Slate does not believe that our society is being fair about this since in many cases people have committed felony offenses and just so happen to have good lawyers to get them off.  That being said, we have decided to try and do something about it.

First some facts:

  • There are approximately 20 million people in the US with Felony criminal records.
  • There are approximately 1 million new Felons created every year
  • Some studies have shown that if an ex-felon is going to go back to crime it is usually within 3 years of release.
  • Many employers do not know that there are several levels of felony classes A-I.
  • Many employers are fearful of hiring felons because they don%u2019t understand and don%u2019t try to.
  • Ex-Offenders come in all job skills, shapes, sizes in colors.  Any job that can be done there is someone with that skill who has a felony criminal record.
  • When a person is constantly denied privileges such as a job or a place to live they will eventually find a way to get by and that way may affect you or a loved one.

Fair Slate believes everyone has value so our organization seeks out those ex-offenders with marketable skills and works with specific employers to get them jobs.  If that option does not exist then we ask employers to help with training in return for free labor and if that option does not exist then we put high caliber ex-offenders together to create their own businesses under the guidance of the Fair Slate Organization, then when they have proven that they can maintain the business it is completely turned over to them.  We have enterprises that are operated, managed and run by ex-offenders.  We also get employers to train in the latest technology.

Fair Slate also understands that if it can gather up those ex-offenders who can now vote that there is power in numbers and we would have significant voting power to get some of the laws changed.

What we need is the following information:

Name
Age
Sex (M/F)
Year of your Felony
Is your debt completely paid? (finished probation, finished parole)
State of your Felony
Class of Felony (A-I)
Currently Employed (Y/N)

My felony was 18 years ago. I am looked at like a second class citizen. I have paid my debt and deserve to have a second chance. I made bad decisions but I should not have to pay for them for the rest of my life. Thank you for your support!

The way the laws are now, it is literally impossible for a person to make a fresh start. People cant get their life in order without the opportunity to earn a decent living or find a place to live. The system is designed in such a way that felons are punished their entire life; they never stop being punished for whatever wrong they've done. This very situation has impacted my family beyond measure. My ex-spouse was convicted of a felony; and God knows he was trying is trying to get it together, he can't, employers won't give him a job. It's so painful to see the disappointment time after time when he's told we don't hire felons. I've seen him go through long periods of depression. It's surreal. What is he suppose to do? How is he suppose to support himself? He spent 2 years in prison, the way he speaks of that experience I know he doesn't ever want to go through that again, which means he knows he can't break the law; that's the objective right? Now what? I've heard ladies at church speak of how they did things 20 years ago that prevent them from pursiuing certain employment opportunities. Its inhumane!

Alot of felons or ex-felons are cast out of society because of a drug addiction, which is not a curable disease, but can be put into remission, if these felons that are addicts could get the help they need with their addiction, there would be a HUGE drop in crime. Addicts are looked upon as "scary" or "beyond help", SO NOT TRUE! the right help for addicts who may be felons will stop them from returning to their previous "active addict" type of life style, returning them to be a productive member of society, addiction should not be a crime! but it is because of ignorance, people would rather continue to be an addict then to be cast about society as "an addict"..this type of attitude is dead wrong...there can be a reason why people are felons, and addiction is one of the reasons.... I am not a felon, but just wanted to add something to this petition from a different point of view... addiction is a disease, but there is help for this disease...
