Bring manufacturing jobs back to America!

Target:
US Government Department of Labor
Sponsored by:

We are experiencing the worst unemployment in 60 years, and record amounts of children's toys and other products made in China are being recalled for toxic levels of lead (mostly paint). Chinese manufacturers and the American product companies and retailers that are doing business with them don't seem to care enough to change their processes to protect the health of our people. The answer to both of these problems is to bring manufacturing jobs back to America.

I did a search for toys with lead paint on the Consumer Product Safety Commission's website, and got a LOT of results. This is an ongoing problem, but so far, I haven't heard about anybody doing anything to fix it. Why do we keep doing things this way? Because it's more profitable for big toy companies and retailers like Wal-Mart to pay a few cents an hour for Chinese labor than to provide jobs to Americans at reasonable pay rates; it cuts into executive bonuses, secret off-shore embezzlement accounts, and political action committees' lobbying funds, which help pave the way for further offenses against the people.

China also has no environmental protection agency, their energy use is spiraling out of control, and they are quickly on their way to becoming the worlds biggest polluter and the most polluted place on Earth. So, in addition to contributing to American unemployment and health hazards for consumers (especially users of products for babies and children), big American companies using Chinese labor to make their products also helping to pollute the world, speed up global warming, and melt the ice of Greenland, Siberia, the Arctic, and Antarctica, which places 60% of the world's population in danger of being flooded as global sea levels rise over shorelines in the next few decades. Billions of people's health and very lives are being endangered so that a few millionaires can become billionaires and a few billionaires can become trillionaires. It is time to say NO MORE!

Our government, who seems to have no problem spending trillions of dollars on wars to get oil, and hundreds of billions of dollars to bail-out corrupt and inefficient financial institutions (whom, after being bailed out aren't even wanting to loan money anymore), should be willing to spend some billions on the people and infrastructure of this once (and hopefully again) great nation.

It seems to me that any economic stimulus package should take into account the jobs stolen from Americans by big business over the year, and start the process of bringing them back. Sure, it'll piss of China, possibly ensuring future war with them, but hey, whatcha gonna do? The exporting of jobs to other countries by American companies should be taxed to the point where it is not profitable to take jobs away from Americans.

Take our unemployed masses, pay them to build clean, renewable energy power plants of solar arrays, wind farms, and hydrodynamic devices, and new manufacturing facilities run by this clean power, and then put them, and others to work making lead-free products for themselves and other American consumers.

My message to American corporations and politicians is basically this: It is grossly unethical to exploit the poverty of the people of other nations for cheap labor, and then exploit the people of your own country by charging many times more for items than the foreigners make to produce them, resulting in ever increasing  profit margins for yourselves, growing environmental damage from Chinese manufacturing processes, and ever decreasing job opportunities for the American people, who are your primary consumers, anyway. If we continue to lose all of our manufacturing (not to mention technical support and engineering) jobs to other countries and become a nation of part-time retail clerks and waitstaffers, who is going to be able to afford to buy all your cheap plastic toxic-lead-painted crap?

Honorable representatives of the people and titans of industry:We, the people, of the United States of America, need your help! We face two problems with the same solution: 1) massive unemployment, and 2) toxic levels of lead based paint in many products, including toys and other items used by baby and children. The solution is to bring manufacturing jobs sold to China back to America. Doing this will strengthen the American economy, provide much needed jobs, and ensure that our products are made with pride and care and are safe for use by humans, and also protect the environment, since the US has an environmental protection agency to monitor our businesses and China does not. Please listen to the people, to ensure our future, rather than listening to the dollars of corporate lobbyists anxious to take advantage of cheap foreign labor for their own profit regardless of the cost to our citizens in terms of employment and product safety. Thanks!

Unemployment is at an all time low. I don't think it takes a rocket scientist to figure this out. We have basically outsourced ourself to the point of destruction of our nation. I am not sure which President was responsible for this, but I think we need a President who will put the American People first before anything else! I just wonder if it's too late for us....

Lobbyist dollars...

We really have got ourselves in a mess. Bring back jobs from over seas take back our dignity. Do away with welfare lines don't give Americans excuses to tell the government there's no jobs. Put America back to work tell big companies no more slave labour to make money while it tears this country apart from with in.

No I don't think the government looks at things in ways that benefit the country as a whole. The rich have to much influence on issues with the government that effect ands have affected Americas stability. Its time to face reality we need jobs American people need to go back to work by doing so it will get people of the streets and give them their self respect back. There is just so much to cover on this issue we need Government that will encourage big business to bring foriegn jobs back . Or even give them time lines to get it done. We really need this done every day in this country people get more dependent on the Government.

I am disgusted with the amount of products being manufactured in China that are subject to recall due to being toxic. American companies need to bring manufacturing back to the US despite the cost and help put Americans back to work.

I have been unemployed since 2002 and live in Idaho which promotes Tourism. I am a Native and have watched the self-destruction when it went Right to Work. Sawmills shut down, manufacturing companies left, mining operations ceased. I have had to buy clothing, toys, boots online from other States that still carry Made in USA products some Union some not. At least maybe I can help keep someone else employed for a little while longer.

The Government is too busy fusing with each other when they should be working together & figure out how to reverse what they have done, destroying our jobs pretty soon they won't even have money to pay their own salaries and that's what it is going to take before the damage they have done can be reversed, our forefathers didn't mean for them to take charge & destroy our Country but that is what is happening or should I say already has happened!

Bring Manufacturing Back. You may not be in manufacturing but you can encourage people you know to start a small manufacturing company. Tell them to find an established product, even if it is manufactured in China and then develop their own version of that product and take their market share. That's how the big guys do it. They wait for a small guy to invent and establish the market. Then they move in and take their share of the larger market. Turn the tables. Find the established market then make your version of the product. Bring it to market. It will work. If enough of us do it, we will have our manufacturing back.

Put the lobbyists out of business. Look how they destroyed the health care effort, and every real effort to reform Wall Street. Nuff said. Republican or Democrat, the Lobby group have simply screwed you. Wake up.

It's not fair to blame any one member of the government for the outsourcing or apparent lack of effort in ending said outsourcing. In fact, blaming people for it is nothing but a waste of time. Time is better spent getting manufacturing and tech support jobs back into the United States. Just because our current president hasn't accomplished this does not mean that his rival would have. It is time for everyone (meaning the government, since the United States is set up in such a way that any one citizen really can't make a difference) to shut up and stop thinking about themselves and do their jobs.

An often overlooked but serious consequence of the loss of manufacturing jobs is the complete "professionalising" of the existing job market, meaning the only jobs left in the "developed" countries are of a "professional" nature. This in turn has made higher education MANDATORY to secure the most trivial of jobs, which in turn has lowered the standards of education, and lowered the standards of professionalism, simply because many, many young people are simply not inclined to stay in school for the first 20 some odd years of their lives, yet they feel they MUST, which in turn has turned universities into trade schools that young people want to get over and done with as quickly and effortlessly as possible. Let me be clear, there is absolutely nothing wrong with not liking school, I don't like school. What IS wrong is that decent alternatives do not exist for those that are not "institutionally academically" inclined, turning education into the nasty medecine you HAVE to swallow.

My government does not give a rat's a** about my well-being.

The greatest transfer of wealth in all of Human History has taken place in less than one generation. Today America, once the largest lender Nation in the World, is now the World's biggest moocher standing with a beggar's cup looking for China's spare change. In the late 1950s, the United State's Industrial Base was gradually stripped and shipped overseas, first to Japan for its then low wages, then to Taiwan, finally the coup de grace, Communist China. In 1958, only 4% of all manufactured goods purchased in the United States were imported. Practically everything was made in America, clothing, shoes, cameras, binoculars, shoes, watches, clocks, toys, bicycles, name it, it was all made here. First it started as a trickle from Japan and hardly noticed, then it became a fast flowing river, finally it was a flood. The golden days had ended, no longer was there full employment, no longer was America the Land of little millionaires, the envy of the World, instead it became the land of a relatively few Big millionaire and billionaire importers. Look also at how 'wise' the leaders of the U.A.W. were, did they not say to the Japanese auto manufactures, "If you sell here, then build here!" So the Japanese did that, they built here, however they never made anthing here. Where are the Japanese steel mills, foundries, casting plants, engine and transmission plants, tool and die shops, and metal stamping plants? Assembly plants generate no side industry, they are like mules, hybrids, fit only to suck America's wealth back to Japan; now it's China's turn to pick the bones clean. If America ever gets a REAL president who will care about the United States and its people he will force both Houses to impose an import tax at such a level that such as Walmart and other such criminal entities would find it very UNPROFITABLE to keep their sweatshop, prisonlike factories in China open, and guess what? Once again the United States would have full employment and no National Debt; it would be a return to the golden years of the 1950s.

Bring back manufacturing jobs...to America or we will cease to exist as we have in the past. Manufacturing jobs by American owned companies, where the employees are American Citizens, and the operations take place on American soil. This is not about Republican vs. Democrat anymore. It is Old School Secure Sovereign America vs. Global Socialism...and the Ivy Leage Socialists are winning right now. This is a National Security and National Economy issue that requires immediate attention. For the last 20 years Dems and Republicans alike have committed treason against our country in the form of NAFTA and other "Global Economy" endevors. We earned the right to make and buy within the states. No Chinese or Mexican or anyone else has done that. We will LOSE this battle. We earned the right to be paid more than 3rd world countries. It's their opportunity to catch up by working...not for us to give it to them...that's exactly the issue here. Share the wealth. We're sharing our country and our country's jobs. It's as though our elite Socialist government thinks America or DC is the capital or the World. We're NOT!

The government for the last 20 years might be thinking in simple terms of how to create a more secure world and market place. But it's a large gamble which is causing our country to lose while giving the fruits of our labor and blessings to other countries. They obviously don't see this or they are guilty of Treason!

Since 2000, more than four million manufacturing jobs have been lost in the US, we need to discourage companies from shipping more American jobs to other countries. And we need to stop giving these Co. tax incentives to do so.

What happened to America? Why did we get rid of our factories? For what profit?! Well their is more to life than profit, like peoples lives, many Americas lose their jobs because we move are factories overseas, also the products made there become crap. Bring our factories to the USA!

I know where all of the jobs went, and I can explain how this came to be, and whats happening. To an extent from my own point of view of course. I've experienced the effects of jobs being outsourced first hand as I used to work for a global electronics manufacturer who moved my job overseas. Since then prospective employers have given me the spiel of "your overqualified" to the economy is just so bad no one is hiring. The baffling part of this is, our jobs are outsourced to other countries, so that we can import those products at a cheaper cost, however now those of us who have been laid off are expected to turn around and purchase those products. With what money? now we don't have a job! - my case in point! Sending our jobs to other developing countries might be good for those countries, however as we in the US are the largest consumer of goods in the world, it seems to be illogical to take away those very jobs that give us the money to consume those goods in the first place. I could go on and on about this, but I am curious what other people have to say. Personally I am tired of everything being made in china, and I think that companies who want to do business here, should build their products here.

We need to bring the jobs back to the USA if we are ever going to bring ourselves back from the worst economy since the Great Despression! I don't care that Vietnam, China, Indonesia and other eastern countires can hire workers at pennies on the dollar! I want my products made in America, by American people and sold in the USA!!!! Not by Mexico either, they have their drugs to peddle so we don't need to fund it for them by providing their drig cartels with American money! WTF is going on with the USA???? Our fore-fathers are not just turning in their graves they are catapalting in them! It's time for the American people to stand up and take back our country from a very corrupt system of elected officials! We elected them so now it's time to fire them!!!! Come on America stand up for your Country!

I don't know why we the people and the Government can see why the economy is this way. Well think about it Americans want it cheap, so the companies here move overseas while all the American employees lose their jobs. They did this to sell it cheaper, but how are people suppose to buy it if they are jobless!! A lot of companies are moving overseas and depleting jobs here in America. Then want to sell there product back here. Are you kidding me?! I think if you move overseas sell overseas not to America BUY AMERICAN. The goverment needs to set limits on what we buy from overseas! America used to be a Independent Country, but now its dependent on other countries. I think if we can make it, then make it here in AMERICA. Give americans jobs! I wish it would come the day where I don't have to search on every product to see where it was made. On everything I buy I would like to read MADE IN AMERICA. Hopefully one day it will come to that.

No the goverment doesn't care about our well-being because if they did then they would of stop the purchases from China a long time ago. There has been too many incidents of lead paint in toys, lead shavings in Valentine lollipops, chemicals in baby formula, whatever it was in the toothpaste and dog food and etc. Personally, I think China is up to something.

The ONLY way we will ever have a strong economy in this floundering country of ours is to bring back good-paying reliable manufacturing jobs with union benefits. Quit playing this bail-out game - it's not working. Order our corporations to either bring the jobs back to America or give back their bail-out money and forego their tax breaks. All this tip-toeing around the problem isn't solving it. You simply can't ignore the problem anymore, nor can you still continue with the status quo and expect it to work out. Einstein said that insanity is doing the same wrong thing over and over and expecting a different result. That's what our politicians and corporations are doing and I'm sick and tired of it! Enough of this crap!

Our government cares about only two things: money and power, and those who wield it or supply it. The government doesn't give a rap about us working-class folks.

THE PROBLEM IS , THAT i CAN NOT FIND PRODUCTS , MADE IN THE GOOD OLrD U.S.A ANY MORE, AND IF I CAN I CAN'T AFFORD IT. It really bad, where I live, we no longer mill our own trees, which use to be a main stay in this state. We send them all to china to be milled. then buy them back from them. How can the help the ecomony, talk about fuel expenses. How can we every break away from using fuel , if we can not buy locally. The American people must band together , and break away from the government that support big business, and demand that they give the businesss back to the people of this nation. the time is now before we all no longer have job and china own us.
