There are many cases every month where are animals are left suffering in kennels. Most are easily treatable, all do not want to be in pain or discomfort. Below are some incidents that have happened just in the past few months, where the public would be cited and/or charged with cruelty, neglect, or theft, but is happening at the CCSPCA, our own animal shelter! They have had no one holding them accountable for the thousands of lives that go through their facility, they have no expectations, they are still in the mind set that they have to kill, it is not their fault.

CCSPCA, here's a NEWS FLASH for you: YOU ARE WRONG!

-In December, a family's pet dog, a purebred Rottweiler, went missing, and ended up at the CCSPCA. The family was responsible and had the dog microchipped. The CCSPCA called the family to give them the good news that their beloved pet is safe and that they can come pick up their dog. The family was unable to pick their dog up that late in the evening, and said they would come first thing the following morning. When the family showed up early that next morning, they were told, their dog was no longer there! The dog was stolen in the middle of the night. The only way a dog can get out of the facility is through staff hands. The family left absolutely devastated. A little later that same day, the CCSPCA sent out an Animal Control Officer on a special task to the family's home- the ACO was to give the family a check for $1,200 - $1,800(we have heard varying amounts from inside sources) The family did not take the money. Instead, they went to the news with their story, but the media failed to report this story. The employee suspected of stealing the dog was eventually fired, but the family's dog was never found, and never returned to the family.

-In December, a German Shepherd came into the shelter doused in diesel fuel. The dog was in distress, and reeked of the gasoline. This dog sat in the shelter for over four days soaking wet in diesel fuel. The German Shepherd was in pain from the chemical burning on its skin. The dog laid cold, shivering, and wet for over four days. No one bothered to give this dog a bath or even a second thought.

-In January, a little long hair Chihuahua mix came into the shelter with an obvious skin infection, covered in lesions, and in extreme pain. This little dog was left in a cage, and received no treatment for nearly a week. Each day, she got worse, the lesions broke open, there was blood in her cage. The infection spread to all her limbs and around her eyes, causing such irritation that she could not see out of one eye. This little Chihuahua was not shown any compassion, she was left deteriorating. The little suffering dog finally was released to a rescue. Just a few hours after the little dog's release from the CCSPCA, she was given antibiotics, topical medicine, and warm wet compresses on her wounds. She instantly showed signs of hope, she felt alive again, she was given a second chance.  This little dog, now named Lorna, was saved by Animal Compassion Team based in Fresno, CA.

-November 2010, the CCSPCA was having a "euthanasia" training class for their employees. During the training, the supervisor giving the class said they didn't have enough cats for the training session.
So, what does this person do? The supervisor tells one of the employees to go get the "Petsmart cats" to use for the class. The employee upset at first declined, but had to follow instructions. The employee was so upset they quit on the spot. When administration found out that these cats were killed, the person in charge of the class put all the blame on the ex-employee stating he didn't know what cats they were. Petsmart designated cats are cats that have already been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, micro-chipped, and are just waiting to be transported to a Petsmart store for adoption. The store the cats were set to go to was not informed what happened to these cats. These cats were waiting for homes and had somewhere safe to go! All they needed was a ride. They simply died for practice!

THIS PETITION IS TO SPEAK OUT TO MAKE THE CENTRAL CALIFORNIA SPCA A "NO-KILL*" ANIMAL SHELTER.

We demand the new director be one who follows the law, is compassionate, is innovative, and believes that healthy adoptable pets do not have to die!

(*No-Kill means only the suffering and extremely aggressive animals are humanely euthanized. An animal is not killed to "make space" or because the animal has been at the facility "too long." The first step towards "No-Kill" is hiring a compassionate innovative director)
