This policy decision means that the sale of some Genetically Modified products will be tolerated in Ireland. The minister passed a bill in which Ireland "altered its voting position"and will back proposals from the EU Commission "aimed at authorising the placing on the market of food, food ingredients and feed containing, consisting of, or produced from genetically modified maize and cotton."
This decision was made without consent or consultation from Irish food producers and consumers.
