H.R.3485 : .Sponsor: Rep DeGette, Diana [CO-1]

Target:
Members of Congress
Sponsored by:

Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) was able to get a provision into the Food and Drug Administration Globalization Act of 2008 that would give the FDA the power to issue mandatory recalls of contaminated food. But she has yet to get a provision into the bill that would require the agency to devise a food tracing system. Ms. DeGette points out that the technology exists to trace food and produce from the farm to the dinner table. It's time that Congress put that technology to work to protect the food supply. Rep. John D. Dingell (D-Mich.), chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, who is shepherding the act through the House, must ensure that traceability is included in the final bill. The two provisions together would make a relatively safe food supply that much safer. .

Dear Congresswoman DeGette:
We the undersigned support your efforts to improve food safety and security.  We want you to know you can count on us to help you in your efforts to get a food tracing system that works in place now.
Thank you for working to provide the FDA these tools: recall authority, traceability, improved epidemiological investigations, and private sector certification.

I have stopped buying apple juice, since most comes as concentrate from China. How could such a product be traced...it is fungible by the time it gets here. Lets get back to food safety basics. My parents owned 17 acres of apples, and they were good.

Country of Origen. How much of food cost is transportation?

Sheila Ewing we are entitled to know where the ingredients in prepared food comes from. We are also entitled to know whether meat, poultry products come from factory farms or humane operations.

All foods to be labeled--so I can tell where it is from and whether it is altered in any way (genetic, irradiation, chemicals of any sort--everything!!)I also want to know on exactly which day it was harvested or killed. Naturally I want to know if it is farmed or wild

Complete and straightforward labelling. No "almost" labels like "all natural" All foods certified that the labelling information is accurate. OH--and those who pass the laws are served the foods they permit for others--like melamine in the milf and "acceptable" levels of whatever

I don't want to bring something home that might make my family sick. I think it's the government's job to make sure it's safe before it's allowed to be sold.

Make up pamphlets and make sure they are available whereever groceries are sold.

I'd like a list of products (and manufacturer) that are manufactured in China so I can protect my family. It is pretty obvious that they will continue using whatever poisonous fillers they have, no matter how many animals, children, people and babies die. STOP IMPORTING FROM CHINA Bring the factories back home.

keep the food in clean boxes or bags just to keep the food healthy and that the bacteria doesn't invade the food

surveying consumers and also advice would be important in this case, by advertising and stuff like that.

Any that will aid in protecting our family against food poisons, carcinogens, bacteria or any other issue that would harm us.

More interactive displays and educational tools at the retail levels. Trained staff in stores to assist and educate the consumer.

Grow, build, buy LOCAL...why in one of our country's citrus states am I forced (no alternative products on shelves) to buy Chilean fruit and vegetables from my local supermarkets and produce markets?
