For the Promotion of recycling in the United States

Target:
U.S. Congress
Sponsored by:

Americans generate about 250 million tons of municipal solid waste annually. This would cause some to say that we are "drowning in trash". Although garbage isn't currently a major concern for the United States right now, it is still something that deserves attention and should be addressed. The trash problem in the United States can be curbed by means of recycling.

Recycling is efficient in reducing littering, garbage, and waste disposal, because it can remove and prevent harmful chemicals from entering the environment. Almost all state and local governments in the U.S. are in support of recycling. Some states establish refunds for certain recyclable materials to promote recycling. Environmental experts are also in favor of recycling because it conserves natural resources. In fact, the scrap metal recycling industry creates an estimated $65 billion in revenue each year and employs over 50,000 people. This proves that recycling is not only good for the environment but can also stimulate the economy and create jobs. Recycling is also good for the environment. Many products that aren't biodegradable can release dangerous chemicals into the environment. An example is e-waste, waste created by electronic and electrical products. About 20 20-50 million tons of e-waste is generated annually, and if not recycled properly could harm the environment. Recycling also reuses materials and reduces the amount of garbage in landfills, and 30 states are currently increasing landfill capacity. Also, about two-thirds of all generated waste isn't recycled, meaning much of it resides in landfills for long periods of time.

Recycling is very effective in getting rid of hazardous waste and in the process cleaning our environment. Trash is an issue in the United States, but as long as it is addressed effectively our problems can be diminished. Trash many not be the priority problem in the U.S, but it is still something that should be addressed. To the congress, please consider that recycling can be more than what it is, and is important to restoring and preserving the environment. Please consider creating more policies in favor of recycling, even if it doesn't seem important as of now, because whatever mess we create will have to be solved by our next generation.

I hope we start taking our recycling way more seriously! Most cities don't do it adequately - if at all. It's time to recycle EVERYTHING we can, and even get new jobs started where we can turn our trash into treasures! I'd also like to be able to recycle compost - even if I do live in the city....I hate to see it going down my disposal!

LET US ALL DO WHAT WE CAN AND DO OUR PART IN RECYCLING. THERE ARE PLACES THAT LET YOU DO THE CANS, PLASTIC, NEWSPAPERS (SPCA), ALUMINUM SODA CANS (SPCA AS THEY GET MONEY FOR THEM TO HELP RUN THE SPCA), BATTERIES ARE RECYLED HERE AT OUR LIBRARY WHICH HAS A RECEPTICAL FOR THEM, COMPUTERS AND ETC., AND SO MUCH MORE. JUST CALL AROUND AS TO WHERE TO TAKE IT. THERE ARE SNEAKER COMPANIES THAT COLLECT THE SOLES OF SNEAKERS TO BE MADE INTO NEW, TIRES ARE BEITNG RECYCLED AND MADE INTO CARPET AND SUCH. I DO IT ONCE A WEEK AND I USE A WHEEL CHAIR. STOP WITH ALL THE TRASH, BY DOING THE RECYCLING IT LESSENS THE TRASH PROBLEM. SO LETS GET WITH IT AND DO SOME RECYCLING. (IT WOULD HELP IF APARTMENT COMPLEXES WOULD ALLOW THEIR TENANTS TO RECYLE).
