FOX News' Misrepresentation of Airsoft

Dear Fox News,

I represent a group of Airsoft enthusiasts and we are very displeased with a video we found on YouTube. It features Fox News Reporters not taking proper safety precautions when handling replica firearms and making insulting remarks toward people who own airsoft replicas. Myself and other airsofters have noticed many unsafe conditions being created in the video in question.

Examples of such unsafe practices include the following:
-The female reporter grabs the replica handgun from one of the male reporters and immediately puts her finger on the trigger.
-One of the male reporters is holding the replica "H&K MP5A5 Submachine gun" with his finger on the trigger while the replica is on it's fully automatic feature. He is also pointing the replica in the direction of the other reporters. There are many more unsafe practices in the video, but we believe that those are sufficient examples.

In addition, some of the remarks are very condescending and said in an insulting manner. Examples include: "Who is buying these things?" and "Is there a huge market for people that try and pretend to hold up... (unidentifiable speech) ... in other words Absolutely!". These statements are uninformed and disrespectful.

Thirdly, these replicas are not "toy guns" as was said by one of the reporters. They are replicas which are very realistic for training and hobby purposes. Airsoft is a sport and hobby in which the replicas can be used as law enforcement and military training tools. Airsoft can be a valuable tool to teach Firearm safety. On the boxes and safety instructions for airsoft replicas, one may find a warning stating "THIS IS NOT A TOY".

Just because a few inexperienced and ill willing children and adults choose to use these replicas in crimes and other unworthy practices does not mean all of airsoft should be banned.

We would like it if Fox News would air a positive airsoft experience with an informed airsoft consultant. If you need any help contacting any informed airsoft consultants we would gladly refer you to many qualified airsoft organizations. Feel free to contact me at thor@vikingairsoft.com

Thank you for your time and effort in reporting the news we all enjoy. We hope your organization will clear up the "airsoft" situation with the whole country. Airsoft is a very enjoyable hobby and sport, and many of us wish to keep the sport alive and as safe as possible. A country wide report on proper safety exercise as well as encouragment of using airsoft equipment on designated fields only, may do the trick.

Thank you for your time,
-Mike S. ("Einarr"), Viking Airsoft team, Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
Salutations!
Recently, a special was done regarding the possible ban of airsoft in St. Paul. We in the airsoft community feel that this is a misrepresentation of our sport. Here are some reasons:

FOX News recenty aired this special: http://youtube.com/watch?v=pqK3jg3bo30. Amoung the many statements and mistakes made:
- Calling a muzzle a "nozzle"
- Taking a gun which has the action closed and magazine in, and putting a finger on the trigger (Repeatedly)
- Stating that airsoft guns sound real (Anyone who has fired a real firearm and an airsoft gun can attest to the inaccuaracy of this)
- Dropping the gun on the table (Shows neglect for proper safety procedure

I, along with many members of the airsoft community which have signed below, feel that this is a biased and inappropriate look at a military simulation sport, even being used for training by military and police forces.

FOX News: Please visit a large scale, professional level airsoft game and interview dedicated players, especially on the topics of gun safety and misuse, to give a flourishing sport proper representation.

Thank you,
-Mike S., Viking Airsoft team, Rio Rancho, New Mexico.
