Derrick Miller was imprisoned for defending himself against an Afghan detainee, who, while being questioned about why he was lingering around Derrick Miller's camp, tried to reach for Miller's weapon. Miller's innocence is corroborated by his fellow soldiers and the Afghan interpreter who was present during the incident. Because of this action, Miller's camp was on high alert and was well prepared against the attack that occurred hours later. Derrick Miller was sentence to life in prison with the chance of parole for premeditated murder, simply because he was protecting himself against a civilian with questionable motives
