My son has never been in any trouble for a violent crime. he was out of work. and staying with some people, who were in to drugs, needless to say their home was raided and five people were arrested, one being my son. two of the people were out in a day, and were known drug dealers. two were husband and wife with kids and they were dealing. My son son was the unlucky one who was staying there. The married couple got time the man spent 2 years and the wife four years and were let out my son got thirty five years!!!! All because my son had a bad lawyer and his lawyer wouldn' let my son talk to the dectives yet the others did talk and of course they blamed it on my son. we have a public defender working on his case. But if any one can help in any way it would be great!

We the undersinged want the laws lessened for non-violent crimes. Are jails are over crowded and costing tax payers. Non-Violent crimnals should have a chance at rehabbilatation and a productive life. Thank you very much

it's really sad when things like this happen. i'll keep ur son in my thoughts and hope for the best! 35 years is a bit excessive, did they do drug tests on him to find out whether or not he really was involved with it? if not, they should have. he should not have to take the blame for this!

I disagee with the guidelines set for Mark McQueary crime. No person should sit incarcerated for thirty five years for a non violent crime, especially with no criminal history for this crime. This is an injustice and something has to be done.

This isn't right to keep an innocent man incarcerated. A person is innocent until proven guilty. I'd like to know if those who were freed spilled the beans and put the blame on Smiley??? Has he had a chance to defend himself? Did he tell his superiors he has to speak to the same story as he did his mother? If the stories are different, something just isn't true. If you're holding an innocent man for some unknown reason while letting the others go free, why? and You have to explain yourself.

Im my dad's only daughter and I havent seen him since I was 10 or 11 years old. I am now 18 and I have a baby on the way. What they did to my father was unlawfull 35 years! Rapist and Murders dont even get that much time. I would like my dad out so i can get to know him again and have him know his grandbaby.

I am so very outraged by these kinds of injustices that pervade our so called criminal justice system! I know several people who've had their children taken away from them or been prosecuted without true due process. It's a problem that could strike any of us. What has happened to justice in this country? This is not the country I grew up in or that my uncles gave their lives for.

good luck. too often the sentences, etc. are way out of line of the crimes. Last year they tried to put an elderly woman in jail for 3 years for stealing 3 rolls of toilet paper and a retarded man for 35 years for stealing a donut. I don't like drugs or drug dealers but I think we need options on how, where, etc. to "punish" them: i.e. I would prefer corrections instead of revenge by a society that is in itself cruel and immoral.
