Sara Kruzan, now 31. She was raised in Riverside by her abusive, drug-addicted mother. Sara met her father only three times in her life because he was in prison.
Since the age of 9, Sara suffered from severe depression for which she was hospitalized several times. At the age of 11, she met a 31-year-old man named G.G. who molested her and began grooming her to become a prostitute. At age 13, she began working as a child prostitute for G.G. and was repeatedly molested by him. At age 16, Sara was convicted of killing him. She was sentenced to prison for the rest of her life despite her background and a finding by the California Youth Authority that she was amendable to treatment offered in the juvenile system. Life without parole means absolutely no opportunity for release, said Senator Yee (of California). It also means minors are often left without access to programs and rehabilitative services while in prison. This sentence was created for the worst of criminals that have no possibility of reform and it is not a humane way to handle children. While the crimes they committed caused undeniable suffering, these youth offenders are not the worst of the worst.
THROUGHOUT THE 16 YEARS OF HER INCARCERATION SARA HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO THINK ABOUT HER LIFE AND WHAT SHE COULD DO TO CHANGE IT. SHE HAS GROWN INTO A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WOMEN WHO HAS GOALS, DREAMS AND AMBITIONS. RIGHT NOW THE BIGGEST THING FOR SARA IS WISHING, PRAYING & HOPING THAT SOMEONE WOULD TAKE A PROFOUND INTEREST INTO HER CASE SO THAT SHE CAN EVENTUALLY STEP BACK INTO SOCIETY TO BE THE PRODUCTIVE WOMEN THAT SHE IS VERY MUCH CAPABLE OF BEING. ONLY GOD HAS BROUGHT SARA TO THIS POINT IN HER LIFE AND NO MATTER WHAT THERE IS LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL FOR HER.
I'M DEDICATED TO ADVOCATING FOR THE FREEDOM OF MY DEAREST FRIEND SARA KRUZAN, SOMEONE WHO IS VERY MUCH LIKE A SISTER TO ME. PLEASE SIGN OUR PETITION AS WE FIGHT THIS INJUSTICE TO BRING SARA HOME.

I am the mother of four adult children. I have spent 25 years as a counsellor of Victims of Crime... and it is my firm belief that Sara IS a Victim of Crime. It is a disgrace that after all this young woman has endured, that she remains incarcerated.

She should not still be in prison. She was forced into a life she didn't choose and as a minor should not have received such a sentence. She should be FREE!

I was very touched by your testimony. I would hope the court gets this petition and strongly reconsiders your sentence. One thing you may also want to mention is how employable you are. Your strengths. You may want to present to them with how you can survive and MEAN to survive. You seem very much to have such determination and perseverance that only a survivor can have. My heart goes out to you.

I am in support of freeing Sara and helping her to start a new life. Along with counselling to help her deal with all that she has suffered which is important to her health and well-being. I do not condone murder but I can see how she lost it so to speak with all that she was suffering. My heart and prayers go out to her. I do not believe she is a danger to society but I do believe that men like the one who did that to her definetly are. They are the ones who should all be rounded up and locked away. Poor sweetheart I cannot find the proper words to express how very much I feel for her and all she suffered. Please help free Sara and give her back her life and help her in it being a new life without pain and suffering. She has suffered enough and deserves a chance for a new life. God bless her. Please show compassion and help her to be freed. Victims of abuse and severe abuse need to be helped not locked away for years and years. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I think that Sara should be given a chance at a new life she probably has never known what is like to be happy or a young carefree girl her innocence was taken away from her by that evil man who molested her how can a victim of crime be punished like a criminal? This is unjust and I am truly shocked at the outcome of the judge who sentenced her to life without parole how does she sleep at night? It is the same system that this judge works for who let Sara down when she was young and being abused. This story is shocking and despite this event taking place in the US it has reached me and my friends in the UK and it is truly shocking. I am disgusted and angry that the legal system in the US can not look at the nature of the crime and the evidence and circumstances that indicate that Sara was a young child trying to obtain the justice that was owed to her by ridding the world of that scum! Murder is by no means at all lawful but the US legal system is put in place to look at the evidence and the background of the "wrongdoer". Is it because Sara is not a wealthy individual or a "white defenceless lady?!" who could possibly do no harm; did she asked to be sexually abused at the age of 13? and be made a child prostitute? She has served enough time and now needs the system to be on her side and provide her with the rehabilitative building blocks that she needs to salvage any sort of normal life she has left! Two words FREE HER!

Please release Sara. She was a child who was also a victom and is now paying a price for something that should never have been allowed to happen. Society should have protected her. We failed another child and continue to persecute her by keeping her in jail.

A child prostitute killed her pimp, her rapist, which was her only means of escape. It probably saved her life. While there may need to be legal recourse for that, life without parole is not the answer. She was barely old enough to drive a car, yet we expect her to pay her entire life for what was in some respects self-defence? As a child. With proper support this woman could yet become a functioning member of society, yet the system often comes down harder on minors to to set an example. There is a separate system for minors for a reason. Use it.

There is no right to condemn a young misguided women to life in prision for correcting a situation that was not right. I believe that she has changed and should be let out of prision to help other young women that are in the same situation she was in.

There is no right to condemning a young misguided beautiful woman to life in prison for correcting a situation she made better, not only for herself but many others that might have followed because of not knowing any better. Yes a punishment was necessary but life is extreme. He exploited her, manipulated and degraded her in every way. What if it was your child.

By keeping Sara locked up in prison, what kind of message are we sending to the women in the world??? Is a rapist and a child molester more important than an innocent girl???

What the criminal justice system has done to this young lady and many other minorities like her is unfair. Truly her punishment does not fit the crime. All judgments should be made in light of the circumstances and in this case they were not thorooughly considered. The just thing to do is to allow this young lady to resume her life outside of prison for she has adequately served her time!

Please help, it is the right thing to do. Not everything is cookie cutter. It's been proven time and time again that sometimes people are railroaded. This is a sad example of the failure of many people to save one little girl. She has paid a huge price already, but she paid over and over and over before she defended herself. Please Please Please help.
