Freeze the $700-billion bailout payments

Target:
Barack Obama, John McCain, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid
Sponsored by:

We, the undersigned, believe that the $700-billion dollar financial bailout is not being properly administered by the outgoing Bush administration.  We believe that the payments currently being issued to the financial institutions do not have enough stipulations as to how the money should be used.  We would like Congress to halt any additional payments to financial institutions from the bailout package until at least February 20, 2009, one month after the new administration takes office.  We insist that the next administration attach stipulations to these bailout payments so that the taxpayers will actually be getting value for our money.

Make the people who are responsible for the financial mess pay for the bailout themeselves, not the American people. Raise the minimum wage to at least $15. hr, so people have a chance to improve their lives, and get out of poverty. No more bonuses, tax breaks and giveaways for the rich. Tax the rich appropriately, and reinstitute the Glass Steagall Act, and other checks and balances. Audit the Federal Reserve, and make the Federal Reserve a cabinet position, answerable to Congress, with strict oversight. Stop consolidating the big banks, which destroys small community banks. We need a national People's bank in the US that represents the American people, not corporate interests. Institute a Single Payer Health Care- Medicare for All, strengthen Social Security, nothing else will suffice. No more corrupt Wall Street bailouts on the backs of the American people.. Hold Congressional hearings on this theft right away!

I do not believe in bailing out the financial institutions. However, government could give more help to people trying to buy a home. With interest rates the way they are only help so much. The prices on a decent home is extremely to high in price. Something needs to be done where we all can afford to own a home. That's just one of Americans dreams.
