This is Gabby.She was "euthed" on a Monday by lethal injection, however she was underdosed. On Friday, a shelter worker went to the freezer and found her STILL ALIVE!! - under other dead puppies. This is the the THIRD TIME this has happened. The mayor has been made aware of all three times and is not real concerned ( he was defeated in the election). The mayor told the shelter worker to have Gabby euthed again. She refused and Gabby is being sent to a rescue tomorrow. We are asking them to review and change their euthanasia practices/policies as they obviously are not working. Safeguards should be in place so that this does not EVER occur again. At a minimum someone should be double checking to be sure the animal does not have a heartbeat before it is thrown into the freezer. I was devastated when I came upon this story about what this poor puppy went through as well as the collie and probably countless others animals have gone through. I can not believe that in 2008 we still continue to euthanize so many precious innocent animals. These same animals that give us their unconditional love, that help us, that comfort us. It is absolutely disgusting and this needs to stop now.

The mayor's actions regarding this entire issue have been absolutely UNACCEPTABLE no matter what the situation may be. And the events in this case and the ordeal that not only the dog "Gabby" endured but other dogs as well reminds me very much of the jewish holocaust in Nazi Germany. It was not ok then & it is not ok now.

There should be supervision in place for all euthanasia at shelters because this happens alot more than people think and even under sedation the heart stick method is wrong, I know I worked for animal control and had to perform this it was very hard on me and I had nightmares all the time. I also worked at a shelter who gave pupppies no sedation and would stick them in their bellies and they would walk around for a minute like they were fine and then would just fall over dead.
