CITIZENS AGAINST THE $2M FLAG

CITIZENS AGAINST THE $2M FLAG

Target:
The Hon. Minister of Sports Mr. Gary Hunt
Sponsored by:

We, the citizens of Trinidad and Tobago have had enough with the wasteful spending of OUR money.

Let's show Minister Gary Hunt, The Excecutive Chairman of the SPORTT Company Mr. Kenneth Charles and Executive Director Darren Millien that we must be accounted to and are not to be treated as fools.

Enough is Enough!!

We the undersigned, have deep reservations about the cost of the flag on display at the Hasley Crawford Stadium.

We ask that an investigation be made into the tender process for the purchase of this particular flag and that the findings of this investigation be made public.  Additionally, we note with interest your statement that it is your desire to see more flags of this nature around the country.   It is our hope that you do not follow through with this plan since we see this as a slap in the face of the citizens of this country.

Further, we note that the stadium is lit with neon lights which rim its exterior.  We would like to get the total costs of these lights, details of the tender process and which company eventually was given the contract to install these lights.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and look forward to your timely response.

$2 million for a flag doesn't not instill national pride in the citizenry. National pride is something instilled in people from being proud of the country - its leaders, its culture, its people's achievements etc. How can a massive flag placed opposite the bourgeois/premier mall/cinema where most people in Trinidad and Tobago cannot even afford to go to can instill national pride in the population. Which sector of the population will this instill national pride in?

This flag cost way too much, there are too many people below the poverty line in our Country, many people without jobs and yet these politicians find our hard earn money to wastefully spend behind a flag for what, fame or no, no, wait it's called NATIONAL PRIDE. Mr. Hunt I'm way to disappointed with your input in this venture.

...for the reasons you have already enunciated we should support this initiative ... ... as well, our good ol' Lloyd Best, R.I.P., might well have intoned of this citizen action: 'People vigilance and any necessary action is where good governance starts' ...

I think it is a disgrace that Millions of Dollars are being spent on totally unnecessary gimmicks that have absolutely no positive impact on the lives of citizens while so many vulnerable citizens are unable to meet basic needs.

Mr. Millien,Hunt and Ken Charles should show their true patriotism by paying for the flag from their own pockets and donate the taxpayers 2 million to the little children in need of life saving surgery then we would start to feel a little national pride.(don't hold your breath, please)

I live in Trinidad, and i must stand against wrong. it's wrong to spend $2million on a flag at this time while everything is not going right.

Has anyone noticed that the colour red on the $2million dollar flag is the WRONG colour? Go take a look . It is a deeper red than it should be. It's a lovely Red but it aint our National colour, so even worse, $2million spent and it's the wrong colour.Remember that 7% of all males are colour deficient, so be careful before you judge.

Nations have recently been led to borrow billions for war; no nation has ever borrowed largely for education. Probably, no nation is rich enough to pay for both war and civilization. We must make our choice; we cannot have both. -Abraham Flexner, educator (1866-1959)

This is by far the worst government that Trinidad & Tobago has had, at least in my lifetime. How is God's name do people sit back and let this government do so much nonsense. I cannot believe that more people are not outraged and taking action.

I am in construction. This flag couldnot cost more than 250k TT. Why are we being robbed?

If Gary Hunt had to pay for this flag from his pocket, then the true cost of patriotism would be far less. Just another exorbitant waste of our tax dollars PNM style.

Because T&T is hurting from lack of proper health care for its citizens, an escalating crime situation, high rents, a lack of respect FROM its people-elected government and numerous other ills. And you are spending OUR money as if it is your God-given right, as if we are the children and you are the parent(s) and you know best for us. Please! we are probably among the highest in literacy and education, so don't treat us as if we are stupid. I cannot eat the flag, it won't save me if I get swine flu and I certainly can't live in it.

Before the Fifth Summit, WASA began a pipe laying exercise in Morvant. This is when water problems began in Morvant. To date the water issues have not gotten better, but worst. We began having water only from midnight for an hour or two. We are now without water for the past 8days. The Lady Young Road is being cleaned, paved and painted for the passing of the King and Queen, while the roads of Morvant is in a deplorable condition and the residents have been experiencing severe water problems. It hurts me to know that much money was spent on a flag while the citizens of this country are lacking so many simple basic necessities.

No proper infrastructure for "developed country" status not to mention the state of healthcare and pensions. This is just 1 example of the mockery that is made with MY very hard earned money.

Money used for flag could have gone to a sick child needing urgent surgery or to upgrade of San Fernando Hospital or to making a new facility to rehabilitate vagrants who overpopulate our streets.

Obviously the flag costs about 20,000 at most and Mr.Gary Hunt pocketed the rest same kind of thing with the new Piarco Airport being built

Our Dear Prime Minister said yesterday in a television interview .."17,000 children die each day" you think $2,000,000 would have saved some of them and let them live a couple days longer............It must go and Gary Hunt with it...

My problem is not with the fact that they have placed a the flag of T&T at the National Stadium, but I cannot accept (a) that it cost $2million, and (b) that anytime there are questions asked about the level of service being provided in our country, from the state of the roads, health and security, we are told there is no money for these. If they want to put up this flag, then lets see improvements in all these other areas, and not only see action when Summits are in the air. It's clear this bunch of politicians, starting with Manning, only think about themselves and not the rest of us plebs. My fear is that after all this talk, we will sit back and let the PNM sycophants vote them back into power. We MUST vote them out next election!
