The purpose of this online petition is to canvass for the release of a comprehensive overview of Gene Watson%u2019s vast contribution to the genre of country music in the form of a box set of his music.
Gene Watson has been a stalwart of the American country music scene since the late 1960s & it really is time for a fitting tribute to a man who has been a standard bearer for honest, traditional country music.
Gene Watson fans everywhere are anxiously awaiting the production of a complete box set of material; they feel that Bear Family Records in Germany, under the watchful eye (and ear) of company owner Richard Weize, is the ideal choice to undertake such a project.
A comprehensive Gene Watson box set would ideally include previously unreleased material, rare demos, studio out-takes, live performances, interviews, along with rare photographs.

Gene Watson is an ALL TIME Legend of Country Music. Some people have never had the opportunity to hear alot of the great music he has cut through the years of his career. This is very unfortunate, a box set of his past recordings would give alot of people music they have not been privileged to hear. I happen to have all his old vinyl and I would LOVE the opportunity to buy his collection again on CD. I do hope you will give consideration to this project. With good PR & radio play it will sell it self. You just have to get it out there!!

My dad and Gene Watson had two things in common. Restoring cars and country music. Dad was a guitar player/singer and his favorite Watson tune was "Farewell Party." Have been a fan since '79. My parents who passed away in the past few years had been avid country music fans so we were accustomed to that form of music in the family home long before TVs became a source of entertainment. I firmly believe that Gene Watson is one of the finest country artists the United States and Canada and now Great Britain has had the honour of listening to and it has always been somewhat of a disappointment to me that he has not received more accolades than he has. I anxiously await the day when he will one day when Gene will receive a life time country music award which I believe he deserves. Please consider Gene for a Box Set Tribute to honour him, his music, as he is such a fine entertainer, a true clear voice it would not only honour him but his fans who dearly love and appreciate such a wonderful talent. I have been a Gene Watson fan since about 1970. I was very lucky to meet Gene and actually become friends. During one of his shows at the Hitching Post in Bristol, TN I got to meet another friend of Gene's - Johnnie Baily. Johnnie was one of the nicest and most wornderful person I ever met. We became great friends. Johnnie has now passed and I still miss her as I bet Gene does too. I lost contact with Gene but finally in 2007 Gene got back to Bristol, TN at Rhythm & Roots and I got to go to his show. He was as great as ever!!! And it had been about 20 years since I had been to a show. I tried but didn't get to talk with him that evening but maybe I will be able to this year as he will he back to R&R. I can not wait. I am signing this because I think everyone should have the chance to own all of Gene's music and be able to hear him anytime they want. Thank you for your time. |
