The last weekend of February 2011, a facebook group was started by a local resident in Bridgend following a very frustrated and sad winter of watching horses starve, and many others emaciated and some dying and indeed dead!
The RSPCA and Bridgend Council were aware of the dire situations from Oct 2010, and have always maintained they are 'monitoring' the situation and the conditions were 'acceptable'. Now, even people who dont know one thing about horses knows if there is no grass, the horses needs to eat something else. Even when there was many weeks of snow - there was no food provided or decent water. These horses have been completely FAILED by both the council and rspca.
There are a lot of very heavily pregnant mares with this herd due to give birth in these unsuitable and dangerous conditions, some have already been born, thankfully in better fields, but what about the ones here? The stallions are running with mares as we speak, foals are being born in to this unsuitable care daily and many heavily pregnant mares are due to foal, we have already seen the first new arrivals. The problem will be even more serious next year and we can expect many more fatalities especially among the newborns.
Horses need regular worming , teeth and hoof care, again, with out this they can die.
The horses are being involved in RTAs and one even collided with a train and died.
The week the facebook launched an appeal for help - HAY WAS DELIVERED!!! It didnt stop the horses dying, sadly the damage already caused in suffering so long was too much for some horses to cope and just were not strong enough to survive, BUT it has helped more horses to survive. HOWEVER, the council and rspca are still not enforcing the Animal Welfare Act or the Passport of Horses law against this owner and this MUST BE CHANGED!
Join Voices Against the Neglect & Abuse of Horses (VANAH), to get them to help the horses, punish the owner and to stop this happening again!
For every one Voice, there is one more Chance for these horses!
