Increase wattage on Georgia's energy buy back tariff

The tariff that controls how much energy Georgia Power buys back from alternative energy sources has expired. We are asking for the next tariff to be increased to 5 megawatts. The current level is 500 kilowatts and was used in six months. Georgia Power has proposed a new tariff of only 200 kilowatts which is the equivalent of 40 houses. Experts predict that amount would be exceeded in 2 weeks. Please sign and let the Public Service Commission and Georgia Power know you support the increase to 5 mega watts.

The Georgia Public Service Commission will soon be voting on a reissue of a tariff. This tariff caps the amount of green energy that Georgia Power has to buy back from alternative energy sources. The current tariff expired in a brief six months. The current submittal from Georgia Power would more than half the buy back amount of the old tariff. It's being recommended that they only have to buy back 200 kw or the equivalent of 40 homes. A larger buy back tariff is needed for three reasons: more economic development of alternative energies in Georgia, better health for our children by reducing the need for coal fired plants and more jobs for Georgia. Please help us reach our goal of 5,000 signatures by July 30, 2009.
