The 25-year-old African spurred tortoise was snatched from Sullivan's yard on July 7. Police following an anonymous tip found Bob behind an apartment complex several days later.

Bob's hind legs were badly cut, a toe was cut off, his neck was slashed and his shell was punctured with a sharp object. The attacker tried to cut the animal out of his shell and threw him against a wall, police said.

Jose "Tony" Mosqueda, 18, of Ventura, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. He pleaded not guilty and faces up to three years in prison if convicted, prosecutors said.

The goal of this petition is to get Jose "Tony" Mosqueda the maximum.

When is this country and the courts going to realize that people who abuse animals also abuse or will abuse people. I say throw the book and anything else you can get your hands on at him. These people need a lot longer sentences and penalties.

Something needs to be done to stop these 'people'. Not only should there be a prison term but hit him where it counts. May I suggest a healthy donation to a rescue club that homes and rescues abused marine life.

I wish it weren't too late for this to mean something. This young man will be heard from again. Maybe not country wide as he has been with this incident but he will be in the papers regarding a felony murder or four. This is just the first step. The target will continue to change as his lust for adventure needs feeding. We have just been introduced to the next Gacy, Dahmer or Bundy. Mark my words. It won't end here.

Please give Bob's attacker the maximum penalty allowable under the law. Please also remember that it has been proven time and again that people who hurt animals this way also hurt people. Jose Mosqueda's senseless violence and sadism will not stop here. Please lock him up and keep him off the streets for as long as possible.

This is a despicable act of cruelty and he should be locked up for as long as possible as he is no loss to humanity.

Is really necesary to talk about the animal liberation.! What we have to understand? why the stupid people think than they make any REAL GOOD to the planet making to the animals injuries or priving them of their liberty on their natural habitats... SO stop crudelty now..! What world are you making for the future??

That boy is an stupid person than maybe does not had the luck of know the love of an animal and I think than he has to be in a jail just visited by the dogs in that way he could undrestand how important can be the presence and logically the love of an animal and has to recive a lot of psicological tratments and if in 3 years he does not understand he should be throwed in a cage of hungry lions

I just saw this on Animal Planet today! If i'd had know before i would haver responded then. I hope i am not to late to help! Put this psycho kid away now. He is this way at 18??!! And His parents have threatened their dog too??!! The parents shld be responsible too! This is absolutely sick. This person needs to be in a mental instution receiving help for a long time, a county jail will do nothing for him if that's where he is. Please let me know how else i can help this innocent animal and his family if i can. Dallas

I hope that this kid gets the absolute maximum sentence. Obviously he is mentally disturbed to treat an innocent animal this way. I have no sympathy and if it were up to me, he would get a much longer sentence. I would say something along the lines of 20 years.

Please, please do whatever possible to punish this man to the full extent of the law. All that turtle does is bring happiness and joy to a little boy's life as a best friend. Anyone who would go out of their was to inflict that much pain on Bob needs to see the inside of a jail cell for years and years to come. Being the owner of a Boxer whom was abused, I have seen first hand the life long effects abuse will leave on animals. Imagine this situation was your pet, your son. Please lock this man away. Get well soon Bob! Courtney

It is horrific enough to be cruel and inhumane to animals let alone to take the only bond a autistic child has away and tread it so poorly is an outrage!!

No I do not this man should be put away for at least 10 years any one that could do this to an animal could easily do it to a human!

I think Mr. Mosqueda deserves to have his toe, leg and neck cut and thrown up against the wall!!!! But since I know we can't do that by law, then he should at least get the maximum penalty including any additional charges they can find to tack on to his sorry azz.

Three years is nothing compared to what he did to this poor tortoise. I hope he suffers for the rest of his life in one way or another.

I hope someone in prison inflicts some pain on this piece of trash.

Not nearly long enough, this is how Jeffrey Dahmer started too.

3 years is not long enough. An individual that can do this to an innocent animal with no remorse is capable of doing it again..and studies have shown time and time again, that human murderers have a history of abusing and killing animals as a kid. So "Tony" will be out in 3 years and still have no further understanding about the gravity of his crime nor will he have any more compassion toward sentient animals.

Depravity doesn't begin to describe this coward, the incident that supposedly instigated Jose Mosqueda was a farce. It was a minor inconvenience that could've been avoided had it been for a whisper of responsibility on Mosqueda's part, to keep his pit bull (could it have been any other breed?) out of the yard of a woman who has a child with autism. Absolutely deplorable and worthy of a type of justice we've not yet conceived.

Absolutely not, this peasant will go to jail, make contacts, friends, and connections. No doubt his poor upbringing, which causes his inability to think rationally or have any sort of conscience, would allow him time to work out, fight, and feed that which sent him there in the first place and make it out unscathed, even more upset and ready for revenge.

What angers me the most about his is if Tony had done this to a human child, he would've gotten three life sentences but because he did this to an animal, he only gets three year. I think Tony should be sent to the Chair.

Tony should have his legs badly cut up, a toe sliced off along with his neck slashed. He should then be stabbed with a sharp object then slammed against the wall. In other words, everything he did to the tortoise should be done to him.
