Tell McCain & Obama to go carbon neutral

Tell Obama & McCain - "Go Carbon Neutral"

Target:
Senator Barack Obama & Senator John McCain's Presidential Campaigns
Sponsored by:
Both Senator McCain and Senator Obama have proposed Cap & Trade Systems to curb greenhouse gas emissions by selling carbon credits. The funds from these credits are used to fund renewable energy research that will create American jobs, provide energy security and slow global warming.

Unfortunately, neither McCain nor Obama believe in these carbon credits enough to use them to offset their presidential campaigns. Buying carbon credits would allow these candidates to mitigate the greenhouse gas emissions from their private plane rides, bus trips and campaign offices.

As we move into a new presidency, its crucial that the candidates understand what is at stake for our environment. The time for just talking about solutions is over. For the sake of our economy, our national security and our planet's health, action must be immediate and cutting-edge.

Please sign this petition and tell Senators Obama & McCain that the country is serious when it comes to real environmental solutions. We expect these candidates to show leadership on this issue today, not just after the election.

For several years, both Senators Barack Obama and John McCain have shown great leadership on the issues of the environment and energy. They have both spoken passionately about the need for solutions for the difficult challenges our planet facts. Therefor, it would be wrong to undermine their passion and enthusiasm for environmental policy reform.

With that said, neither candidates' campaigns are currently carbon neutral.

This is especially troubling given the fact that both Senators McCain and Obama have submitted proposals for cap-and-trade emissions programs that would essentially create a market for precisely the types of carbon credits that neither candidate is currently buying to mitigate the greenhouse gas emissions of their campaigns.

Carbon credits help fund essential research into renewable energy sources that would provide energy security, jobs and a healthier planet.

As Senators Obama and McCain criss-cross this great nation to gain voter support for their campaigns, their plane trips and bus rides contribute to global climate change. Buying carbon offsets will reduce the impact of these activities while  showing leadership on an issue both men consider very important.

We urge Senators John McCain and Barack Obama to make their campaigns carbon neutral today. Both candidates know the value of a carbon credit market. Both candidates understand the need to address global warming and energy security. America can't wait until after the election to see how these candidates will lead on this important environmental issue.

Go carbon neutral today.

If the future leaders of America do not step up and prioritize what it Morally important to life, than the problem with "carbon gases" will continued to go ignored and unresolved! THE REST OF THE WORLD HAS ALREADY moved on without us environmentally, because of America's reluctance to value ecology over it's greedy economy. It's MORALLY wrong to ignore this environmental disaster and CRITICAL to have a LEADER that acknowledges it.

Please support Solar and wind. Solar cell efficiency has matured from 17% to 70% and is being used in space to create lasers. Thats powerful! It's unnecessary and antithetical to provide oil industry with incentives to develop environmentally friendly alternatives. Not to mention, a waste of money. No more coal, no ethanol.

I'm a supporter of Obama and respect McCain, so this is not intended as any kind of "gotcha" against either of them. I think this is an important method of leadership that I'd really like to see both campaigns get behind.

As two candidates who understand the impact of climate change on our lives, I think it would be a powerful gesture to make your campaigns carbon-neutral by purchasing carbon offset credits. You are both leaders on this issue: continue to lead by example.

It's time we take a step toward being more environmentally responsible. Please put your money where your mouth is, and buy carbon credits to help preserve our precious Earth.
