Urge Uganda to Return to Peace! As peace-loving people, we strongly denounce the return to war by the government of Uganda, which, along with the armies of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Sudanese Peoples Liberation Army, attacked the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) on December 14, 2008 in Garamba Forest, DRC.
We are especially concerned for civilians in the DRC, including captive women and children with the LRA, who are now at greater risk following the offensive.
The DRC is already experiencing a devastating crisis in which two million people have been displaced. Provoking the LRA will only create more war in the Great Lakes region--potentially and disastrously--spilling back into northern Uganda.
We ask that you denounce the Bush Administration's support for the Garamba strike and continue to advocate for a peaceful solution to the Ugandan conflict, using all diplomatic means to persuade Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni to:
1. Resume resolution of the conflict through peaceful means and return to the negotiating table.
2. Honor the provisions of the Juba peace agreement, which have been signed thus far.
3. Recall Ugandan troops from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
4. Appeal to the LRA that in spite of the strikes, the LRA's response should not be to resume attacks on the civilian population.

Hasn't there been enough atrocious crimes committed to get your attention? Or am I mistaken and you know but are simply turning your heads? Let me ask you something. If you know a crime is about to be committed (a vicious crime) and you could stop it but you didn't, doesn't that make you a party to the crime in the first place? Yeah, it probably does. So I guess you would be preferred to be called criminals yourself rather than stop the crimes... Maybe you're right, maybe not enough blood has been spilled yet. And maybe nobody should get involved, what the hell, it's only Africans.

I denounce, rebuke and bring to no effect all the plans of whoever plans to return to war in this great Lakes region.

I personally also want to add to this letter and ask the following:
5. Cut off military aid to Uganda's government. There are enough homeless people here in America who could use that aid.
6. Give micro-grants to Acholis directly (not to Ugandan govt.) to resettle their old homelands
7. Provide and equip Acholis with virgin, native African seeds (Not GMO!) to re-start their agricultural lifestyle
8. Equip Acholis with solar-distillation devices to give them clean water to cut down on water-bourne diseases.
9. Carry out a similar program of reparations for ordinary people displaced in neighboring Congo.
Thank you very much. Your help is greatly appreciated. Together we can!
-Rick

We have not forgotten about the DRC, nor are we willing to write off the Congo as doomed to endless war. Please help end fighting in the DRC and advocate policies that do not see the Congo as just a source of natural resources for other nations. Thank you.
