Green Chimneys Camp & School in Brewster NY has a long standing history of abuse. There are also Labor Law issues wherein older teens, still minors (aged 13-16) are put in charge of younger children in the Girls' House and boys' dorms. These older kids are called room leaders and many have been allowed to beat their charges with impunity. There are many such instances. One survivor reported being made to lie on the floor while the roomleader trod upon this child's back, causing injuries. Dr. Samuel B. Ross, Jr. who has been the director/owner since 1947 has beaten many children. He has also forced kids to eat cigarettes; has skapped; punched and kicked kids. His big push is farm animals and the animals take priority over the children.

Green Chimneys has stated that they are "authorized to medicate" kids, but many kids have claimed that the medications were eithe r unnecessary or had adverse side effects and there was no regulation of same. During the years Dr. Samuel B. Ross Jr.'s father was alive, his brand of "medical care" consisted of a brief examination and nothing more. There was no dental care. Putnam County Hospital and Danbury CT hospital have recieved many kids who were injured by beatings at Green Chimneys. The Local Fire Department in Brewster is aware of this as well. I
Meals were often cold by the time they arrived at the table and were doled out in meager portions. 8th graders presided over the tables. Kids often went hungry.
Please close this place. Decades of abuse have and continue to talke place there. Even though this is a nonprofit organization, profits are used to make a magazine and dvds an promote books.
Secual abuse has taken place there. One man was in charge of the Girls' House in the 1970s and he was a sexual predator. He was fired, but his wife continued on there and she beat kids. There were sexual predators among the older kdis and some staff. School was woefully inadequate as kids spent more time on the farm than doing school work. Each grade was divided into A&B classes, e.g. 3A & 3B. If you were in a B class, you were further stigmatized as the B classes were considered lower classes. You still had to work hard to catch up once you left Green Chimneys. This is aa place with a long standing history of abuse.
