Alliance for Universal Power Supplies

A Call for Washington to Support a Universal Green Power Standard

Target:
1000
Sponsored by:
That unsightly tangle of wires, black bricks and wall warts that supply your computer, printer, phone, desk lamp (and who knows what else) typifies a problem that plagues consumer society. Multiply what's at your feet by millions - that's how it is that a staggering 379 million discarded and obsolete external power supplies are destined to end up in U.S. landfills this year alone.

The planet needs -- a single, universal power architecture for electronic devices. Such a standard could prevent hundreds of millions of power supplies every year from being tossed into landfills - maximizing resources, minimizing solid waste, and conserving energy.

Let your representatives in Congress and throughout the federal government know that the time has come for a green power standard -- that such a standard is in the nation's economic interest, and that it's an environmental necessity for the planet.

We urgently need to have a single, uniform power adaptor that has sufficient functionality and utility to replace the myriad of power adaptors that ship with every electronic product. This will drive down prices, eliminate the multiple incompatible plugs and help save energy.

Protect our environment. Earth Day has come and gone, but every day should be Earth Day. We have been given the sun for solar power. Create more wind turbine farms. We should be able to harness the sea's energy. Stores should offer reusable bage insted of paper or plastic. Elected officials should drive hybrids cars and be an example. People should be using electric mowers instead of noisy gas mowers. We have but one planet Earth. Care!
