HARVEY MILK NATIONAL REMEMBERENCE DAY MAY 22

"It's not about personal gain, not about ego, not about power-
It's about giving young people in Altoona, Pennsylvania hope.
You gotta give them hope."
                                                                            HARVEY MILK

Harvey Milk should be celebrated for his achievements as a pioneer as a Civil Rights activist, and a outstanding Human Being.

Harvey Bernard Milk, born May 22, 1930, in Woodmere, Long Island, NY.
A linebacker whose jersey read numbr 60 for Bayshore High School.
An individual who joined the Navy in 1951, diving hundreds of feet into the ocean.
This was Harvey. The same Harvey who sternly lectured the 35 members of his Jewish fraternity. He ask that they admit Non-Jewish members. "How could they deride the other frats for not admitting Jews when they discriminated themselves."

By 1956 Harvey was teaching math and history at Hewlitt High School and
coaching basketball everyday after school.
To a Wall Street investment firm, to campaigning in 1964 for Goldwater, to knowing he would not live pass 50.

For years Civic Classes taught about men being created equal.
It was not until the 1960's that Blacks and Women pushed society to bring that theory to practice.

"UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED THEY CATCH US ONE BY ONE."

1973 San Francisco, California heard the words he said.
"I'm Harvey Milk and I'm running for supervisor." Harvey lost that year,
but by 1974 at public forums he stated, "Blacks won the right to ride buses for the wrong reason, but they won. When you want to win, it doesn't make a difference if you're winning for the wrong reason. It's better than not winning at all."

Harvey Milk's charisma and intellegence changed the look of a Street called Castro in San Francisco forever and started one of the most power- ful and visable Civil Rights movement for all.

It is up to all Americans to continue carrying his work forward.
No matter who we are.

CIVIL RIGHTS: AS DEFINED BY WEBSTER'S DICTIONARY:
