We need to protect those that have 'no words' to protect themselves. The maxmum penalty for animal abusers is not enough. I believe it is only a 2 year probation perod of not having pets. I also agree that some criminals start by abusing animals before moving onto people.

I can't even begin to comprehend as per why anyone could/would do something so sickening as to to beat an helpless animal. It's just plain cruel. I think we should start a $ 1.00 pool for the cause to end animal cruelty and to re-examine how these obviously sick people are brought to justice and how the punishment fits the crime. Animal cruelty should carry the same penalties as assault on human beings. Domesicated animals are dependent upon humans for care and so we have a heightened responsibility to protect them.

This story of a dog beaten by a hammer is truly heartbreaking. No human being who can treat an animal in such a horrible way should get away with something so monstrous. He should be put away in jail, as the animal can feel physical pain just like any human being. This man is clearly ill, and if he has the courage to hurt such a beautiful animal, then it doesn't take much more to hurt a human being. For the safety of others, this man should definitely be punished.

Please put this man away for the rest of his life! What he did is unspeakable and purely evil. If he did not hesitate to do this to an innocent animal, what do you think he would do to a human? I can guarantee you the exact same thing. I have so little faith in our justice system in regards to the rights of animals. I have done rescue work for quite some time and have seen horrific things done to animals. Our justice system has failed time and again to hold these people responsible. Please do the right thing and make an example of him, yes! People need to understand that animal cruelty is unacceptable and will NOT be tolerated any longer. Also, please keep in mind the cost of cases like this, the time and effort that a real human being puts in to help the animal, but most importantly, the suffering these animals have endured. I myself am the proud owner of two rescue dogs, one is from an American ASPCA, which I have brought with me to Europe and the other is rescued from a dug addict on the street. It is way past over due to not only prosecute these offenders, but also raise their fines and jail time! Had it been a child, the punishment would fit the crime. Let's start sending the message that these abusers of animals are not tolerated in our society!

A Facebook friend encouraged me to sign this petition. Before I did so, I found the original story in the Atlanta Journal Constitution and was horrified at the brutality inflicted on this poor, innocent animal. This MONSTER used a SLEDGEHAMMER to BEAT this DOG'S HEAD IN. HE WILL INFLICT TORTURE OR DEATH ON A HUMAN EVENTUALLY!

It is important that everyone understand that any person that is capable of beating another living thing is a sociopath. They are capable of more abusive behavior and next time it could be a child or wife and they might not survive. It is statistically known that violent people will continue to commit these abuses unless they get help. The best thing for the perpatrator of this crime is to be convicted so that they will get the treatment that they desperately need.
