I watched a video about "The Great Garbage Patch" and it moved me. They showed dead seagulls and the cause was that they had eaten tons of trash such as sharp bits of broken screws and it's not their fault. Humankind is killing them by polluting the ocean with their trash. I mean how dare does humankind destroy habitats of sea animals and kill millions of poor seagulls and other sea animals because they now added plastic and trash to one of their meals. Plastic should be elimated because of what it is currently doing to the animals. Any kind of plastic such as bags at the grocery should be replaced with paper. Also all wrapping should go from plastic to paper. It would save tons of marine life. The Pacific Ocean should be picked up and there should be a demantory law that you do not eat on the beach because it saves from trashing it, or there could be guards watching the people and where their trash goes and stop them from commiting something shameful. If we do not act soon. The whole ocean is going to be a huge patch of trash instead of water. Imagine putting your place into one of the many species that live in the ocean, consuming tons and tons of trash or bathing in it. I'm pretty sure you won't like it then support me to end this kind of cruelty and get rid of the garbage patches all over the pacific ocean. Please have some heart and think of the poor animals eating screws, plastic straws, glass, etc. ACT NOW! Credit to greatgarbagepatch.org

We the undersigned believe that the amount of trash in the North Pacific Gyre should be picked up only because it is to help Mother Nature and make her happy. It is just cruel to know that right now a sea animal is consuming pounds of trash because people have decided to trash the ocean. Many of the animals have decided to add plastic as one of their daily meals because since there is so much trash and little what of they actually feed on. As they consume all this trash their stomach is soon full of garbage and some of it is sharp enough to damage their internal organs. Many of the species feed the trash to their young and days later they are found dead because it is not safe for the young to eat those kinds of things. Can you imagine yourself taking the place of these species and consuming tons of trash all dirty and disgusting?
Of all the trash, plastic is one of the most that appears in the ocean, in the streets, in the drain, and mostly everywhere you turn to. As one walks down the street there's always going to be a plastic bag flying off somewhere. That plastic bag will eventually get to the oceans and just mount on top of another making the island not the size of texas but the size of the whole country. Soon all of the human beings will start consuming trash only because our meals were the first ones to consume it. For example, the fish. And, we have to stop that by making changes to our daily life.

Way to help this pollution from growing bigger and affecting more species is by making several changes. For example, the plastic bag should be eliminated of our reach. Gone. We have to change to something harmless and that for sure make sure it does not have the ability to fly away by itself and head to the ocean. Also, we should send boats of all the volunteers to go and clean the Northern Pacific Gyre. It will not only helpful but also it'll make so much change. The pacific ocean will not be called the Trash Ocean but get it's original name. We have to make changes to prevent us from living the trashy life of the ocean just being a flood of dead creatures and look like the biggest graveyard ever.

We believe we can make the change. If you think of a happier life, then make the change. Make not only us and the animals happy, but Mother Nature because she's most important. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

I will let my family and friends know. If each one of us stop using plastic and other hazardous materials that will harm the environment each day, together we can make a difference one day at a time. And the companies that make those products will realize as consumers we are taking responsibility in cleaning up our mess and they will need to be accountable also. It is no longer enough to read what is happening to the enviornment but more effective to clean is by action, our individual action.

The shrimp industry plastic salt bags have been retrieved from the stomachs of dead sea turtles, water fowl and therefore there must be accountability. Careless individuals who lack conscious awareness and are simply to lazy and thoughtless to think about the damage they are doing by tossing plastic waste into the water must likewise be held accountable. Legislation is critical now and must be put into place and implemented as soon as possible. We have no right to pollute our planet and as 'Care Takers' are charged with the responsibility to protect all that we have been Blessed with, for the sake of the next generations. You are being asked to show leadership and leave a Living Legacy. Thank you.

I recently did a report in my oceanography class and part of it was on this specific area concerning plastic debris in the ocean. I didn't realize the extent of the damage that is being impacted until now. Action needs to be taken.

There is no excuse for this degradation of our oceans...as if it isnt toxic enough with methylmercury, PDFs, and dioxins poisoning the marine life...this must be cleaned up today, not tomorrow or next week after many more creatures have died...

This is a worthy cause, please get your friends and family to sign! Another worthy cause :- The Venus Project is an Organisation that proposes a feasable plan of action for social change; one that works towards a peacful and sustainable global civilization. It outlines to strive toward where human rights are not only paper proclaimations but also a way of life. A world whe Mother Nature and Technology work together, not as two opposing forces. Where Resources and Science are choices over Profit and Power. Please look up the website http://www.thevenusproject.com/ and sign the petition. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/The-future-that-Humanity-Deserves

The last information I read said this thing was twice the size of the continental US. We HAVE to do something now! If we can fish certain species to extinction, we can take that energy and clean up the trash!

See what an impact humans have had on the environment, animal & bird life. This is appalling. Humans have overpopulated the world. Something has got to give.
