Help End Wildlife Penning in WI

Wildlife penning is an unfair practice used in hunting dog training where dogs are released into an enclosed area with captive wildlife, where the victims have no chance of escape.  I was shocked to learn that this is legal anywhere in the U.S., and it definitely has to stop.

Needless to say, wildlife penning has no place anywhere.  Last month Florida officials imposed a ban on wildlife penning and it's well overdue for other states that still allow it, to do the same.
We the undersigned ask that you please immediately impose a ban on wildlife penning for the purposes of hound dog training, as currently specified in WI code NR 17.045.

Dumping wild animals into enclosures and releasing frantic dogs on them is unfair and inhumane.  The captive animals have no chance of escape and are simply easy targets that do not deserve to be put in that horrible situation.

The undersigned hereby petitions for the amendment of rule number NR 17.045, which currently provides as follows: An approved hound dog training enclosure permit from the department permits the owner or operator of a hound dog training enclosure to use or release any captive wild animals or dogs into the enclosure for dog training or trialing purposes.

The grounds for this petition are that the practice of wildlife penning is an unfair and inhumane practice.

The modification or change desired is a ban on the use of hound dog training enclosures as specified in WI code NR 17.045.

The petitioners' interest in the request is the welfare and humane treatment of wildlife.

Thank you very much for your time and attention.  I sincerely hope that you will give this request your full consideration and permanently put an end to wildlife penning.
