Help Our Strays in Roselands

Petition to Canterbury Council to instigate the detection, removal and rehoming of stray cats within the Roselands precinct.

There are currently 20 stray cats roaming the shopping precinct and neighbouring streets, endangering themselves, residents, shoppers and  drivers, particulary at night.

This petition has been started in response to Council asking requests to be made in writing to ensure follow-up action.
We the undersigned are writing in relation to the escalating stray cat problem within the Roselands precinct. More specifically, nature strips, roads and pathways adjoining the Roselands Aquatic Centre and Roselands Shopping Centre.

As concerned residents we request that Council acts and removes these unwanted strays to prevent further issues.  As it stands today, the cats are congregating in large numbers at night; causing distress to residents, shoppers and residents as they risk harm to themselves by dodging traffic, trolleys and pedestrians.

The health risk for both parties, cats and humans is also of great concern.  We are concerned for the safety of ourselves and children coming into contact with a less than friendly stray and the potential for disease outbreaks amongst the stray cat population itself.

Apathy is not the solution here, action is.  Please allow your staff to act in accordance with the wishes of the community for the benefit of its residents and animals.
